Why would you want to stop taking your thyroxine?

Can you share some info with us? How long have you been diagnosed hypothyroid? Do you have Hashimoto's? What dose are you on? Do you still have symptoms? Do you have any test results you can post (with reference ranges)?

Oh my. doesn't bear thinking about! I want more! It would be detrimental to your health. It is not adviseable to stop, talk some more and the chances are that you will come to a safer conclusion :)

You will become really hypo / ill. Don't stop as getting well again is a long process. It's serious and dangerous.

To start with, you'd probably feel better. There's a weird phenomenon of symptoms resolving when you first stop, perhaps because your thyroid - if you still have one - does its best to pump out some hormones. But it will usually be very shortlived and within a few days it's likely you'll start to feel awful.

The problem with stopping is that it can take months to get back to where you were before you stopped. Is it that you don't feel well on levo? That could be because you're not on enough - very common - or because your body can't convert it to the active T3 hormone it needs.

Tell us more about why you're thinking about this? We can help... {hugs}

That's true..I stopped for 5 days as I was taking anti-biotics and planning on switching from levo to NDT after..didn't want to be taking too many different things at once. For those 5 days I felt fantastic and then I just crashed.

The bottom line, depending on whether you still produce any natural hormone, long term you can get permanent brain and organ damage and for some death. So please don't stop your medication but start the journey to regain your health. It is not easy or quick, but many people on this forum are also on that journey and offer advice and support. Good luck

Worst case - myxoedema coma and death. Best case brain fog, aches and fatigue. Depends on why your thyroid isn't working properly. Not immediately in either case.
