Cranberries make the bladder too acidic for the bacteria to thrive. I eat a salad with cranberries and walnuts added. I used to get bladder infections frequently. I haven't had one since I added cranberries to my salad.

Not sure about cranberries for me but pleased they work for you. I am also prone to bladder infections but I have discovered that if I take 1/2 spoon of biscarbonate of soda, drink a lot of plain water when the symptoms start and take Alicin, which is a very strong garlic, on a regular basis I am OK. I always check with dipsticks to see if there is any infection but with me it is usually inflammation caused by acid food, esp. sugar and artificial sweeteners.
I eat walnuts every day anyway, as they are full of vitamins and minerals and high in omega 3, one of the things Ive noticed is that some people with thyroid problems get so wrapped up in it they forget they must also watch out for other health problems.
I would try D-mannose. Its a natural, non-antibiotic alternative. It works by preventing bacteria from adhering to the walls of the urinary tract. I get mine from our local health food store in the US, and take 1 pill every morning. I used to get UTI's frequently with the accompanying pain and blood in the urine, and then have to take a course of antibiotics. The symptoms would return after the antibiotics were gone. I have had no UTI's since taking since taking D-mannose for over 2 years now. When I first started self- treating with D-mannonse, I doubled or tripled up on the daily pills for about 7-10 days until the UTI symptoms would go away, then just a one pill a day as prevention.
