About this I was talking about on other topic. From whom you get the transplant should be supervised carefully.

Exchanging poo parties are "dangerous" because of this. But getting fat poo isn't the only issue. Many other health conditions might transfer too.

Naturally of course the most important thing is to cure the possibly lethal diarrhoea. Gaining some weight is a small problem if your life is saved!

Becoming obeses isn't just 'gaining some weight'! lol

But, yes, I agree, it is very important to get the right donor.

I do not like the idea of an 'exchanging poo party'! What on earth would you wear to one of those??? :)

GG, Rubber gloves, nose peg and surgical mask?

And nothing else? lol

:D dunno about what to wear but could be combined with good old tupperware parties... when storing food is not enough, new containers keeps your poo fresh.

Well what I have read about these DIY transplants at home, it makes me a bit disgusted to see my blender on kitchen counter and to think I will never buy used one from flea market.

You just make me choke on my cocoa! lol Brilliant idea!

I would never buy a blender from a flea market, anyway. There's no end to the nasty things people could put in them!!!

That is fascinating. We are constantly being told what a huge part bacteria play in our organisms so it probably shouldn't be surprising.

I just came from my P.A. who weighs around 200 lbs. I would say. In the conversation I mentioned that doctors have to look beyond the obvious. I don't believe people are just stuffing themselves. You'd think she would be on my side with that. All she said was she couldn't follow them home and force them to eat correctly. She didn't mention herself, however.

Typical!

I've thought for a long time that there was more to putting on massive amounts of weight than just eating. How much would you have to eat, for goodness sake! We know here, at least, that it's not as simple as calories in vs calories out. It's far more complicated than that. Makes me so mad when people assume that if you're fat you eat huge amounts. People are dumb! lol

I watched a documentary of a young girl that weighed over 600 pounds. It followed her for seven years. She had the stomach surgery and in the following years, they removed 30 or 40 pounds of skin and fat two times. The doctor did not think she was losing fat quickly enough. The poor thing went through sooo much. The sad part was her parents; the mother was obnoxious and treated her poorly. The thing is, the mother was almost as obese as her daughter! The father wasn't quite as bad but the sister was normal weight.

In the end, she got below 200 pounds which is sad if her flora is still a detriment. I wonder if hypo also does something to the gut bacteria? I suspect it would since it is autoimmune.

what I've read & remembered ...

antibiotics alter/kill gut bacteria - probiotics are offered in other countries

mother to child bacteria transfer is paramount

normal vitamin and B12 absorption depend on certain bacteria

Even H pylori have their place (but mustn't be able to take over).

We are 90% bacteria,10% human - and those mitochondria engines look like harnessed bacteria batteries...

another (reluctant) building block of life?

"let food by thy medicine..."

greygoose in reply toHeloise

That is a very sad story. Poor girl! It's a bit like racism, isn't it, the way fat people are treated.

Justiina profile image
Justiina in reply toHeloise

For some it is simply eating too much. But those people often eat bad carbs and sugars so is it about feeding bad bacteria or too much food. I have read that far bacteria makes you craving junk food so it is not about matter of a will. If one quit eating junk ,fat bacteria sort of dies in a month or so but naturally you have to feed the good bacteria to get rid of all fatty ones and that might take a year or so.

Another thing is the size and the amount of your fat cells around the time teenage. I have read that after that you cannot affect the amount of fat cells. If you are obese around your teenage you will always have more fat cells.

greygoose in reply toJustiina

Yes, but... It's always easier to blame than to find the real reason. But it's still not a matter of plain calories, is it. And that's what you always get : eat less and exercise more! Pft!

Justiina profile image
Justiina in reply togreygoose

I agree. Even though it would be about eating too much , eat less and exercise more won't be the solution. Unfortunately most people seem to believe that!

I think in most cases it is about something else than just being lazy. Being fat is unnatural and I honestly think you can't blame most of over weight people for being over weight. I think for most there is very natural explanation, bacteria, hormones, illness and toxic environment which you might not be able to change as you inherited something.

Like pregnant women who smoke. Baby might be born underweight but the nature knows it is wrong so these babies have more and bigger fat cells because nature tries to make sure you will survive later on. These babies will pass those genes to next generation. Same with some plastics. Babies in uterus are affected. This is something that happens by accidents. Smoking during pregnancy is not an accident yet the baby has no choice.

Then there is a certain group of people who just like eating And Do Not care if they are fat But I think that is not majority of over weight people.

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toJustiina

I think that's a very small minority. But even so, one has to ask themselves why? Why do they feel the need to eat so much? Why do they like it? It's not natural to over-eat. There's a reason for everything. The problem is, finding it.

Justiina profile image
Justiina in reply togreygoose

True, there is a reason for everything. But over eating actually is sort of natural as before we had super markets getting food were a bit harder :D I mean human being had to eat when there were food available and we could eat tons , store some fat as it protected us. But when world has changed so much I think some just give in. It is coded into our system to eat when there is food.

But which was first chicken or egg? Need to eat or modern world altering our genes and making us more sick.

Some just might enjoy their food as some people just enjoy sex with pretty much every person they meet. They are hooked and just love that satisfaction.

Clinical depression could be one thing, not depression as a symptom but that real type of depression which is rare. That person ends up eating, drinking or using drugs because the brain chemistry is messed up.

Or simply it is a habit one has learned and it never crosses their mind that hey it might be "wrong". So they are just a bit clueless.

However the idea of eating less and exercise more makes so much money that finding a real reason might not be the first thing many people want to do. Unfortunately these diets and gurus selling these diets are making money by making people more ill. And so many wants to believe in it. They are desperate to believe there is a quick fix. Like in the article you posted about the flu vaccines. As long as people with enough authority keeps telling you something it becomes a truth (or something like that).

That by the way I think is the reason for poor thyroid treatment. As long as someone with authority keeps telling T4 mono is the cure, even most doctors believe that.

Fat people make money not just to Big Pharma but it sells magazines, tv-shows, books and so on. As long as that continues figuring out why might interest only small group of people who are struggling with getting money for their research. As everyone is so f-king scared what the outcome is. Whose fault it is.

In David Perlmutters book - The Brain Maker - he talks about the future of medicine being linked to faecal transplants tailored to particular conditions.

Anti-biotics were a great invention - but we survive - only to deal with the problems they cause.

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toMarz

I think the main problem with anti-biotics is that we've over-indulged. It might have been ok if they'd been saved for really serious conditions, but people expect to have them for everything - even things they aren't useful for.

But, knowing what we know now, I suspect David Perlmutter is right. I Wonder if you take fecal matter from a clever person, and give it to a stupid person, would it make the stupid person clever? Or is it just physical characteristics it passes on...

Marz profile image
Marz in reply togreygoose

...now there's a thought ! :-) Have no idea if you can pass on cleverness. I guess if the brain is healthy - then the brain will work more efficiently.....

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toMarz

That would be good. But what about the other way around? The potential for despots and dictators is enormous! Dumb down the populations with obligatory fecal transplants... What a brave new world! Everything good has a bad potential, I'm afraid.

What is really worrying is the amount of antibiotics given to the animals we eat which is lading to antibiotic resistant bacteria attacking humans.

Another reason to go veggie!

Probably, but my youngest daughter is veggie and became obese in her twenties now late thirties and obese!

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toTreepie

Oh, I wasn't suggesting in any way that being veggie keeps you slim. Because it's rarely about food. I was just thinking of all those second hand antibiotics causing havoc in the system.

Taking gut flora from one to another has been going on for ages, as has taking faeces from one and planting them inside another, which began when Hitlet's doctor decided his health was bad and he needed the biotics of a healthier soldier - and it worked. But where a lot of people go wrong is to accept the faeces of someone who is not adequate, so they do not test the other person properly or take faeces from someone who has a disease or illness and then get it themselves.
