After three years of hell battling my GP, being told I had a pulled muscle/trapped nerve because there was nothing wrong with my thyroid I changed GP. Last Friday, for a trial period, he put me back on the Levo my previous GP took me off and agreed to another thyroid function test, this time early morning without food, even though my last test results a few weeks earlier were fine. Last test (early afternoon post breakfast and dinner) my TSH was 4.41, this test (08:00, no food) 9.51, that's more than double. There can be no argument now!
Funny, but when I mentioned it to my mum a couple of days ago (hypo for approx 40 years), she was surprised I didn't know, she's been having early morning, fasting tests for most of those 40 years because it affects the results. If her various doctors have known, why didn't mine? Many of my tests were last appointment of the day!

Well done - what a result! What a difference too! I agree, how are some doctors much more enlightened than others? Thank goodness for TUK and all the knowledge you find on this firum😉
Can I ask a question please as recently started medication. For my next blood tests should I not take medication along with the early morning test until after blood is taken?
Hi Gill-56. I was advised by my dr not to take Levo before early morning blood test, but take it straight after. The advise on this forum is also to fast before blood test, just drink water. Hope this helps.
No melds before blood test and get a fasting app. as early as possible. Took me years to find that out lol. Also no food for an hour either side of your Tyroid Medication. Good luck.
Yes I made a mistake, sorry. But I was taking Levo for about 14 yrs before I even found out about when or how to take it. I have been taking it now for almost 30 yrs and I wish I had this link way back as I felt rubbishy for a good many of those yrs. I have Activist Levo as I do not get on at all with Murcury Pharma but we are all different. I am also type1 diabetic so have several things to juggle. Best wishes Kathy.
Hi. I live in Spain (I am British) and here evety single blood test you have has to be early morning having not eaten for 12 hours. I hadn't even realised that in UK they test you at any time of day. I'm glad you have got a gp who appears to be paying you aome attention. It get so frustrating.
Hi, I also live in Spain and the time of taking blood depends on what kind of test you're having. For some you need to fast, for others you can go any time during the day.
