I buy these :

I take three every night (the recommended dose on the bottle) about an hour before I go to bed. This gives me 300mg per day, which is 80% of the Dietary Reference Intake.

Please note that magnesium citrate is used as a laxative in high doses, so more isn't necessarily a good idea.

P.S. Magnesium citrate can make people a little bit sleepy which is why it should be taken in the evening.

Thanks for this great help 😁

In my experience, best time is before bed. It's a relaxant.

I can't find the product you mention on the online store. All I could find was this which I don't think is the same product you bought. hollandandbarrett.com/shop/... Do you have a link to the product you bought?

As suggested by other posters, the best time to take this is before bed. I have found magnesium citrate powder to be better than tablets as you can regulate the dose. I used this amazon.co.uk/Swanson-100%25... There are no other nasty ingredients like magnesium stearate. One scoop provides 630mg of magnesium from 3.9g of magnesium citrate. You can start off with a quarter of a scoop and gradually work your way up until you get bowel cramps or loose bowel movements. At this point back off and revert to a lower dose. As mentioned, magnesium is a relaxant and will also relax your bowel! I only used it short term as a quick fix for something.

I now use Magnesium Chloride spray on my skin betteryou.com/magnesium-oil... to make sure I get sufficient magnesium. It is absorbed transdermally. I also buy Magnesium Chloride flakes in bulk and have a bath using them a few times a week. You can make magnesium oil spray from the flakes. Magnesium Chloride molecules are smaller than Magnesium Sulphite molecules of Epson Salts and are therefore more easily absorbed by the skin.

Interesting point raised in the link posted by Jazzw. Apparently not a good idea to take magnesium at the same time as levothyroxine.

Thank you for taking the time for advice 😁 sorry for mistake I got the selenium Holland an barrette but the magnesium is solgar citrate I also bought the flakes I was going to do a foot soak should I take the tablet as well tonight they are 200 mg thanks again

A foot soak sounds nice! I have read that the pores on our feet are larger than the rest of our body so this is a good way to absorb it.

I really don't know whether you could take the tablets in addition to the foot soak. Solgar recommend 2 tablets daily. At 400mg per tablet that's 800mg per day which might be too much to start with. I'd say take one and see what happens or better still, open the capsule and take half the contents i.e. 200mg or if it's an actual tablet see if you can easily cut it in two. The worst that can happen is that you might need to run to the toilet!

Ideally I think it is better to get magnesium via the skin and from food. Magnesium is not well absorbed by the digestive system and we excrete a lot of it in our urine. Magnesium citrate is the type that has one of the higher absorption rates.

However...do your own research and if you can try to see a naturopath who can help you with this. Everyone is different and I don't know your situation so my advice is only general.

Here's a book on magnesium...that I haven't read yet but the extract was very informative amazon.co.uk/Invisible-Mine... You don't need a kindle. Just download the free app.

My private natural specialist recommended Solgar Citrate to be taken later in the evening, have noticed I start to feel sleepy after taking 200mg supplement around an hour before bedtime.
