Looking for a bit of advice, for over a year now my periods have been irregular firstly I was getting them every 2 weeks lasting around a week to 9 days bleeding was normal for me which is quite heavy a flow, but in the last couple of months inhave been getting a period that lasts around 3-4 weeks and although they are light to medium most of the time I am getting days where I am changing pad hourly and snooker ball sized clots. Last month I was given tranexamic to take when I am heavy but it's difficult as like today it was relatively light then all of a sudden I got a massive gush leaving me with blood dripping down my legs in public. Not pretty all incandescent say is I was thankful I was not at my work. I also had a pelvic scan only yesterday and the sonographer said other that a small cyst there was nothing. I really don't know what to do and wonder if it could be to do with my thyroid although myblevels have remained steady over the years until my last check up a few weeks back.
Heavy irregular periods.: Looking for a bit of... - Thyroid UK
Heavy irregular periods.
My most recent blood test was a full bloods showing that my iron levels were ok nothing was mentioned about Folate and B12 though. My levothyroxine was upped but I don't really notice a difference.
Hiya - been there, had that - you have my every sympathy.
It's known that thyroid hormones and sex hormones all work in harmony and therefore when one of them is off, things quickly go awry.
But being iron deficient also tends to cause problems too (many think that works the other way around!). Just because your hB level was ok, it doesn't mean your iron stores are ok. It's likely you're very ferritin deficient and that needs testing separately.
Do you have any thyroid blood results?
Thanks everyone I am going to ask for more tests tomorrow and get a copy of my results.
