Welcome to the forum, Joynell.

It's not uncommon to feel hypo and hyper at the same time. Hashimoto's can cause this as it destroys thyroid cells which dump hormone into the blood stream. 100% gluten-free diet can help manage Hashimoto's and can reduce antibodies which may also help.

A common reason for feeling hypo and hyper can be low ferritin. Low/deficient ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate are common in thyroid patients so ask your GP to test them. Ask for a printout of the results with the lab ref ranges and post them in a new question for comment and advice.

Joynell, a lot of members avoid g-f substitutes and cook from scratch. Have a look at the pinned post Gluten Free Chats.

Hi, I've just had a visit to an endo. He told me that I had many symptoms of both hypo and hyper. My vit B12, Ferritin and vit D are all lower than optimum, particularly ferritin. The endo did not know of any impact this may have on thyroid meds. My T3 was above range, T4 within range and TSH suppressed as it has been for years. I was told this meant I was hyper but I have no hair at all under arms, loss of hair in eye brows and thinning hair else where and a swollen, tingly tongue - definite symptoms of being hypo and under medicated. My stone weight gain in 9 months could be a symptom of either he told me as could other symptoms that I have.

I also did not know this was possible. Because of the obvious hypo symptoms - impossible to fake, he is going to write to my GP telling him to keep me on the same meds I've been on for the past 8 years - 100mg Levo and 3 x 20 mg Lio. I've been made to reduce lio twice this year and it's caused severe hypo symptoms both times.

I was told to speak to my GP about raising my vits and iron. The endo thought it was worth trying.

GP was unhelpful said speak to pharmacist although she did say she would write to someone to find out if it is safe for me to have higher levels particularly of B12.

I hope it helps that you are not alone!!

Hi thank you for that it's most interesting. My hair sounds the same as yours Can't talk about my t3/4 as I don't know or understand them I'm on Levo 100mg I don't think or feel it does anything. But I'm going to look into it because it's getting me down a bit. I am on vit d as at one stage I was down to 15 and they said that was very low as the minimum is 75. In 2013 I had 1 parathyroid removed in jan then another one in July the same year. I think it's all very confusing. Thanks for your help and if I find anything out I will post it. It is a good forum
