One in five will suffer thyroid disease - Thyroid Awareness Week
The dailymail has always been a supporter of hypothyroidism, just reading there about Fluoide in water.... I didn't think all of UK water supply had it?
The area I have lived in since 1978 doesnt fluoridate water, but the place before that did.
southeastwater.co.uk/your-w... Just found this on my supplier.... I wonder how much fluoride is in the water and can they take it out?..
What about toothpaste?
I thought that sensodyne toothpaste was recommended as being fluoride free ,but have now found that it isn't.
We now need to examine all packets carefully .....no point in paying extra for something that isn't as you thought and of course....not much point in using it if your water is fluoridated !
Boots the Chemist do one non-flouride toothpaste called Smile but beware - they have two called 'Simple' and one of them is non-flouridated so you have to look/read carefully so you don't buy the wrong one - just to make things complicated.
Thanks for that Shaws......I did look on line too and found that there is also Kingfisher Toothpaste, but don't know if it's any good or not.
However,I have just started a course of dental treatment with a new dentist and will consult him on Thursday for any recommendations.
Only thing is that he admitted he has no knowledge of thyroid problems.Perhaps this may be a chance to print out something of benefit to him as I'm pretty sure I won't be the only Hypo he will have on his books.
He actually asked me what causes it?..... So might be interested,to know more.
Any suggestions on that front could be useful.
I will look out some info but from my own personal experience I had some awful effects with dental anaesthetics.
He should use something equivalent to Citanest Octapressin as that doesn't cause excess palpitations. One student in the dental hospital told me she had the right stuff but she didn't and it took me about a month to recover. The dental surgeon told me I must remember as there are so many different ones available.
There's also been previous posts from members who've had bad experiences and some dentists are unaware for the hypo patient. Even before the dentist injects - I ALWAYS clarify 'is it citanest octapressin?.

Shaws.....I think I may have misled you.
I am fine with injections...I was just wondering which Thyroid UK information sheet might be best to offer him with regard to learning a bit about Thyroid Problems, having asked me what causes it?
He has been so good ( I haven't had dental treatment for some time)
I felt that he might want to know more about Hypothyroidism.
There's a link below with two links for dentist.
Also re injections, he might have other hypo patients for whom injections might be a problem.
Thanks for the links Shaws......have just found them ........seemed to be shut out of HU for a few hours but back again now.
I use Aloe Vera one from Health stores and online.
Fluoride apart....Shaws this is very good news and let's hope this week goes well for Lynn in London and is the start of something big!!

Undiagnosed or undertreated can lead to more serious illness such as heart disease, cancer etc. Many patients also take a wide variety of medications to control other symptoms instead of an adequate dose of thyroid hormones.
Thanks Shaws for flagging that up - may it be a huge success and really raise awareness and get some action!
Re: fluoride in toothpaste - it's very easy to make your own from coconut oil, bicarbonate of soda, etc., so you have NO nasty chemicals. Plenty of recipes available online. I think there are only two water companies in UK that fluoridate the water (not sure which), and I've read that you can remove it with a reverse osmosis filter.
some tap water is naturally fluoridated. If i remember a reverse osmosis system is quite expensive. I use a water filter and non fluoride toothpaste
