Oil to help Thyroid

Have just watched this video from Dr Axe and he recommends Frankincense oil to rub onto your throat over the thyroid area. Has anyone tried this?

Topaz1,Thank you for that link found it awesome to say the least. Very good ways of using essential oils which you don't get on the bottles because of legalities. Great link

As an aromatherapist I would not recommend you using any essential oils other than lavender and tea tree neat on the skin; these are the only ones we are able to use undiluted. However, I am able to use just about anything neat on my skin with no adverse reaction, and I do. This is personal use and I would not do this on a client.

VERY IMPORTANT - before using any essential oil, diluted or otherwise, do a sensitivity test. DO NOT DO THIS ON THE THROAT as were a reaction to occur you would close up your throat! A sensitivity test is done by applying the oil to the inside of the elbow or arm and waiting 24 hours.

Thank you for the advice and I will remember the warning.

Hello Topaz1, yes I've been following that superb essential oil series on the healing power of plants by Dr Axe. I personally use a high quality frankincense essential oil in a carrier oil (check goitrogen) and massage on to my Neuro-Lymphatic Reflex points instead of directly over the throat.

Hi mourneadventurer, could you recommend the brand that you use - and where are the neuro-lymphatic reflex points?!

Hello Topaz1,

the neuro-lymphatic reflex points are positioned on our 14 energy pathways. They are used in acu-puncture and pressure.

These energy pathways can get blocked and it's good to "gently" massage them every day - (especially if like me you wear an underwired bra) or as I discovered when supporting an organ(s). In my case heart and thyroid. I now do this when having a shower in the morning and then continue the sequence to re-energise before I get dressed to ensure that my energy system is going forward and not in reverse draining me. I could hardly climb the stairs to get to bed and then I realised that I had forgotten to do my 5 minute morning and evening energy routine.

Donna Eden's book "Energy Medicine" and website is innersource.net. The main textbook is informative for reference however I have found the "Energy Medicine for Women" to be excellent. (if you look at this book on Amazon you'll see diagrams of the neuro-lymphatic reflex points).

When you find a sore spot just "press very gently" and breathe it out as if through your feet. After about 3 deep breaths in through nose out through mouth or longer if necessary release and move on to the next one. Start at the clavicle.

Caution though - go to the energy pathway before the one you're trying to support and gently massage it. For me its my heart that needs support so I make sure I massage my spleen pathway - basically down the side seams of a blouse from the armpits and you'll find it. Go Gently!

I've now added frankincense (check allergy status) and a carrier oil (non goitrogen e.g grapeseed oil) to the self massage before bed just use the hypo-allergenic shower soap in the morning. Currently I'm using (what I can get in my excellent local health food shop) Tisserand, Absolute Aromas and Amphora Aromatics for the carrier oil. I use a small porcelain eggcup to measure out the carrier oil and carefully add one or two of drops of frankincense and/or rose and/or lavender. Wonderful! I've also learnt that if I'm not sleeping to massage the soles of my feet with any essential oil that is left over. Smell the oil beforehand and you'll instinctively know if it's what you need. Don't forget to do a patch test beforehand.

Enjoy the healing power of plants and I would love to hear how you get on.

Best Wishes

I have been using Tisserand Essential oils for years for personal use, and Frankincense is one of my favourites, though I never knew it was good for thyroid, more reason to use it now! Another favourite is Clary Sage, mearly for it's 'uplifting' properties when I'm feeling down. I have an 'aged' tome by Valerie Anne Worwood I refer to constantly as it list so many oils and their uses. The Tisserand online shop 'knows' me well too! Thanks for tip re carrier oils, would not have considered their goiterous qualties, but I do tend to use grapeseed as it soaks in quickly ☺️

Hello Tiger Tea,

good to speak with another essential oils fan. Have you had a look at Dr Josh Axe's recent video series and freebies - great ideas?

I've been putting frankincense along with lavender and rose in a carrier oil with Dead Sea salts (Westland Laboratories bulk buy - great quality) and Dove Farm Gluten free Baking Soda ( haven't got a bulk source for that yet). Wonderful transdermal soak of relaxing minerals and healing essential oils! Then massage on L'Occitane foot cream - fabulous with shea butter and lavender. Anything for a good night's sleep though I have to remember to put slippers on if I get up during the night! Frankincense with a carrier oil massaged across the sternum boosts the thymus also wonderfully restorative.

I see from your Bio that you also have heart rate challenges and by chance I've found that an occasional evening soak in the above bath helps me. Though you'd have to be cautious with this if you had blood pressure anomalies.

I hadn't heard of that book but it is lovely to have an aged tome to guide and support. They become old friends. I must get some Clary sage on your recommendation - thank you. I'm currently using Tisserand's Frankincense because its a strong immune stimulator, uplifting, calming mind and emotions and helps cease mental chatter.I love the idea that it's going in transdermally and I end up breathing it in all night as well. I didn't realise I could get it online however I do like to support our local independant health food shop as well.

I'm trying Frankincense oil neat on an Interdent in between teeth particularly back left as these have a direct connection through the Vagus nerve and to the Sino-Atrial node! I'm checking that all my fillings are toxin free and surprisingly the dentist didn't know, the supply traveller had never been asked and the composite company had to actually check and admit to Tin. The hygienist wasn't even aware of Fluoride versus Iodine hypo-allergenic issues.

I've since had a thought of heavy metal toxicity from a root canal filling back left so I'll check that tomorrow.

Obviously have done all the usual stuff such as Fluoride free toothpaste and water filters. The nose wash with medicinal salt this morning wasn't for me a pleasant sensation but I intend to persevere going the other direction. Anything to try and sort out this Bradycardia and support my thyroid. I've gone down a rabbit hole.

Wishing you joy Tiger Tea using the healing power of plants.

I forgot to say in my reply msg that I also downloaded a really good app from Kuma Hospiral in Japan, showing 3D rotating views of throat and whole thyroid area, nerves, blood vessels etc, it helped show me how the vagus nerve for instance can be so easily affected by any inflammation of thyroid, I have had so much 'irrirated vagus type' activity over the years, it is such a 'tightly packed' area! It was free to download to my iPad mini. I have thought about posting info about app on forum but don't know if it 'allowed'.

I surmise that the reason Kuma looks like good hospital for thyroid problems is because Japanese eat a lot of seaweed so I suppose they have much experience with thyroid issues?!

Good health to you 🌻

Thanks TigerTea - good tip!

I've noticed that the Levo packaging has just changed here in NI. I've now queried if the Levo contains lactose fillers? Also asked dentist to check what if any heavy metals were used in the root canal filling?

It hadn't come onto their radar!

Until I manage to get an appointment with my GP and consultant I'm supplementing the following:

To balance the adrenals I'm using Rhodiola Complex and Ashwagandha for balancing oestrogen both by Solgar also Vit B12 methylcobalamin and selenium by Solgar all gluten free.

At least this morning my tongue is only slightly scalloped on the left side! My face is changing shape also. Somethings working.

DrJoshAxe.com mentions that Frankincense, Thyme (phyto-progesterone) and Helichryseum (?) are good if feeling over-whelmed;

Camomile and Vetiver for Adrenal fatigue along with Epsom salts (1 cup) for a 20 min detox soak.

I've not tried those oils yet something to look forward to.

Good Health to you also Tiger Tea
