GG, I don't think people should supplement calcium without testing but I'm not sure that advice is appropriate for calcium deficient and hypoparathyroid patients.

Over here in Finland they do warn about taking too much calcium, still they have so much information about milk being good source of calcium.

15 years ago I read many articles promoting the fact that it makes no difference how much calcium you take if you lose more at the same time. For example too much animal protein dissolves calcium from your bones.

In that article it was stated that ezcimos ( is it even spelled that way :D) get a lot of calcium but for some reason they also have high numbers of osteoporosis. They eat too much fatty animal protein.

I have tried to explain this to people and make them understand that the milk industry over here has brain washed us and then came the calcium supplements and people are taking them like candies. Makes me sigh.

Exactly, that's the point. I've seen it on here, people take calcium just because they think it's a good thing to take. And, doctors hand them out like candy. I don't know anything about hypoparathyroidism, but frankly, I don't think doctors are the best people to advise. I think people shoul do their own research about this before taking calcium and see if their isn't a better way of raising calcium. And l hope that this article will encourage them to do so.

Anyone who has a proven deficiency or is hypopara will be taking calcium under medical supervision rather than just popping supplements.

Having had high calcium levels and the kidney stones due to hyperpara I wouldn't recommend anyone takes calcium unless prescribed and levels monitored.

Hi Calcium over range is extremely dangerous. I cannot take vit D as it pushes my calcium over range.

Bones are made of many minerals, not just calcium.

I have gone dairy free will this make me calcium deficient?

Doubtful. Plenty of people live quite well dairy free, it's not essential. You can get plenty of calcium from vegetables.
