I am trying to understand my diagnosis and understand that there is mild and Severe Hypothyroidism. Does anyone know what TSH and T4 levels need to be to be classed as severe? Thanks in Advance!

Rosyposy84, Symptoms can be severe in someone with slightly elevated TSH and a person diagnosed by accident as overtly hypothyroid may have no symptoms.

Subclinical hypothyroidism, which should mean asymptomatic, is usually diagnosed when TSH is >5 and <10 with FT4 and FT3 within range. Overt hypothyroidism is diagnosed when TSH is >10 or when FT4 is below range. Most patients will be symptomatic but some won't.

A patient with Hashimoto's may be considered to have mild hypothyroidism even if they are asymptomatic. In the UK they're unlikely to get treatment even if they are symptomatic until TSH is >5.0.
