Hi Sandra , I don't seem able to tolerate Mercury Pharma Liothyronine, leaving symptoms as you describe, but I am fine on Sanofi Aventis cynomel - My GP now prescribes by writing a named patient basis script. I take 31.25mcg daily in split dose and NO levo. You need a pharmacy which holds an IDIS account to source. Our local Lloyds pharmacy have such an account. NB My son is coeliac and I am profoundly better off gluten. Sanofi Aventis cynomel was 10x cheaper than the amdipharm Mercury equivalent, when I priced it up, and this persuaded my GP to allow me to change along with a letter from the endo saying she didn't think it mattered which brand I take. I took this to mean I could swap and persuaded my GP to see the same point. Hope this helps . . . Sarah
You are fortunate Sarah that GP prescribes on a named-patient basis. Mine wouldn't even though at the time there was no MPT3 available either. Luckily I ha a stock of another.
Hi Shaws, sounds simple doesn't it, if only the doctors could follow theses steps. I keep my own stock just on case things change. Whether it is fear of litigation coupled with lack of education I can't say. It has been a 15 year journey, effecting all the family, during which I supplied my own and kept my own records, the profound change for me is adding in the gluten free diet. I hope by giving my current position it may help someone else on their quest. Wishing Health to all :-).
I always suggest having a discussion with your pharmacist about which make. If you get the GP to write a make, then any reason to change will most likely require a new prescription and the problems that can cause.
If your pharmacist is willing to co-operate you can choose to change in future if you wish. And you won't find yourself unable to switch between Lloyds, Almus and Actavis simply because the prescription mentions only one of those names. (All three are the same Actavis product.)
Pharmacy changed to Mercury Pharma. Taken for just 3 days. Had headaches, dizziness, itchy skin, tiredness and genarally just yuk! After reading your message I contacted my pharmacy and they have exchanged back to Actavis. Thanks for sharing!
