Several people have mentioned having being diagnosed with fatty liver, so maybe this may interest them.

Thanks for posting this greygoose, it is just the grist to my mill that I need to argue my case with my son's care workers and NHS Dietician, who have been advocating a low-fat diet. Just another case of being behind the times.

Oh no! But do you have to take any notice of them? Can't you just feed him fat and keep quite? There is so much all over the internet about low-fat diets being bad, I just don't know how they fail to realise that they are wrong! It's most disheartening.

Unfortunately he went into supported living last year and nutrition is not high on their list, although they are good with him in other ways and he seems fairly happy. We are waiting to have a meeting with an NHS Dietician, but you know how they keep up to date - not! And, they are still advocating a low-fat diet. Is this country ever going to be healthy? I am gathering information ready for this meeting, but suspect I will be on my own with information. Don't think husband will support me either.

Oh dear!

Well, if NHS dieticians are anything like French hospital dieticians, you have my deepest sympathy!

I was a vegetarian during one of my hospital stays. I stated this very clearly when I booked the op and it was written down on my form. My first night they served me a hamburger as a 'light supper'! During my stay, they served me ham, and salade with ducks gizzards and all sorts of meaty things. On my last day, the dietician came to see me at last! Better late than never! And I tackled her about it. Oh, she said, I thought that by vegetarian you just meant you didn't eat beef!!!

So, for my last meal, I was served two fish fingers - still frozen! I said to the girl that brought the tray, these are still frozen. She said, oh, I don't know anything about fish fingers, I never eat them. I said, well, you don't have to know anything about fish fingers to see that these have ice crystals all over them! So, she took the tray away, and shoved the thing in the microwave - salad and all! And the fish fingers came back biltzed to a hard black brick! When I casually mentioned this, she said, oh, I don't know anything about microwaves... I ask you, what hope is there!

I wish you all the luck in the world for when you tackle yours.

Would be funny if it wasn't so dangerous. Will post results of meeting. A couple of days after this there is a Carers' meeting regarding the Care Act, which comes into force in April. Should be 'fun' too. Wonder how much more unnecessary information they are going to come up with. You can bet it won't be on the side of the family carers, but will cover 'professional' carers thoroughly.

Sounds like you're in for a tough time. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. As if you didn't have enough on your hands with your own health problems! I'll be thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed that things go smoothly.

Hugs
