My mattress is killing me, lost a lot weight and the springs are digging in me. Would appreciate any suggestions for a good comfortable nights sleep.

Thank you,

Pat

I bought a memory foam mattress topper, for the same reason, it made a huge difference, and cheaper than a new matress. My mattress was relatively new so not worth completely replacing, not sure if Id want a full foam mattress anyway, but thats personal choice

Thank you, a lot of people have said how they smell, did you find that , do they come in thicknesses.

It did smell when I first got it but it didnt last long, no idea if they come in different thicknesses, mines about an inch and a half and has a removable cover, but considering the weight of the thing and how much trouble I have changing the duvet, I doubt I'll ever remove its cover :D

How heavy are they, because got no help at home, husband 82 and just had a stroke, band I am 78, and suffering quite badly at the moment with Fibro.

How do they come package wise?

My husband has had to have a air mattress, just tried it and did not like IT.

The other thing I needed to ask was whether the memory topper goes hard after a time, do you need to buy a more expensive one and donthey get too hot.

Thanks

Pat

I've got one and it did smell at first, but it either wore off very quickly or I got used to it. ;-) I can't remember what thickness it is but if I was buying again, I'd buy a thicker one. One thing to bear in mind is that it can be difficult to get fitted sheets to fit over both the topper and mattress unless the sheets have deep sides.

How much did you pay for yours, I understand from another member that they are quite heavy, Inhave no help at home, my husband has just had a stroke and he is 82 and I am 78.

I have got some flat sheets they may be better for going over the two.

The other thing I wanted to ask was whether they go hard over time or when the temperature drops, is it worth buying a more expensive one?

I'm sorry, I can't remember how much it cost, just that it was considerably cheaper than buying a new mattress. I bought it about a year ago when my back was really bothering me and it certainly helped. It doesn't seem to have gone hard or worn at all. It is quite heavy so perhaps start with a thinner one and get a second to go on top if it is not adequate? I have thought about doing this, but mine is adequate at present.

Not only do smell, the one we tried made me very, very sick. Up in the middle of the night feeling absolutely awful.

Got rid of the topper.

There are a number of similar stories - but there are far more of people who have not been affected like that. Maybe it depends on make? Can't remember what make ours was but it wasn't an unknown, poor quality one.

I think the smell would affect me, I heard that they can become hot as well. Think will invest in a new mattress, but which one?

Hi

Mine came with instructions to put unwrap it and leave it in an airy space for 24 hours to let the fumes/smell (can't recall which) evaporate. Its been fine ever since.

Pat, if the springs are digging through I think they'll also dig through a mattress topper. Approach some mattress companies who will deliver but check that they'll send two delivery guys to remove your old mattress, take the new mattress into your bedroom and put it on the bed for you. Alternatively, if you get care assistance with your husband, ask whether they can help you.

Treat yourself to a new mattress you deserve it. Particularly as we are in it for around 8 to 10 hours a day.

I recently spent a night in a hotel and they had a Hypnos mattress. My husband and I both commented on how good it was. We've never done so before. This is a link and am not sure how much they cost. If you go to the library and ask to see a Which Magazine for mattresses reports. Some hints:
