Hi Sesbo, I didn't panic when it happened to me but I did fight the surgery. People said it was a good form of cancer if you have to have cancer since it was very slow growing. The doctor said I may have had it for five years and the only symptom was a low back pain that would not subside. I was around 40 years old and it was not a long recovery and you can survive very well with only one kidney. In fact, I have read you can survive with only one half of a kidney. It is a frightening thing to face but the odds are that you will be fine. I didn't need chemo or any radiation and have had no effects really since then and it's been years and years.

I wish you the best, Sesbo. Cysts on the kidney are very common, I know three people who realize they have them. You can easily live with those, so hold off on the panic until you find out what it is for certain:)

Very wise words indeed...thank you x

Hi. You would probably have had some obvious symptoms if it was cancer so more than likely a cyst. The fact your scan isn't until next month suggests the medics aren't rushing you through which they would if they thought it was very serious. Thyroid and kidney are connected in many ways but not with regard to cancer as far as I know. Take care.

Hi..thank you very much! My worry is that my haemoglobin was very high and I have read this is an indicator of kidney cancer...ofcourse it could be an indicator of something else but I homed in on it because it was flagged up by the lab...I am trying hard to put my concerns in a box and leave them there until I have the test!! I really appreciate your comment as it does help..thanks a lot.
