Hi

Have heard a lot about leaky gut syndrome, which can cause autoimmune diseases.

Wondering does anyone know of a test to determine wether you have it.

Hi Ali, I had tests done at a complimentary health clinic (not NHS). The Dr diagnosed Leaky Gut Syndrome & prescribed 3 different medicines to take costing almost £90. I mentioned to my GP I had been diagnosed with this, he laughed & said I had wasted my money as there is no such thing. I originally went to the complimentary health Dr as my GP & hospital tests did nothing to help my symptoms. Unfortunately the medicines he sold me did not help either.

Hi Dusty2

Thank you for your reply. I read about this on a site called natural endocrine solution. It was by a Dr who had graves himself cannot understand why GP's won't acknowledge it.

Google for "Dr Myhill leaky gut" - lots of useful info on her website, including info about tests.

Leaky gut and antibodies are interlinked. I was intolerant to wheat for years and learned to avoid it with good results. Then I became hypo and last year my TPO antibodies were very high. I read several books including Isabella Wentz and Robb Wolf and went gluten and lacto free with result my TPO level is almost zero now. It is not easy to explain ina post here. I would strongly advise you read books on the subject. You may need to persevere if you are not science "minded" but I can assure you it is worth the effort. Good luck

Hi Ali

I'm not 'science minded' but on a simple level if undigested protein gets into your blood stream through your intestines, your body can't assimulate it and your immune system treats it as an invader. Then you have antibodies set up to always look for that protein or similar proteins which it will respond to with inflammation. Apparently if you do not ingest that protein for so long the anti bodies will disappear.
