Symptoms
Jade, your picture looks similar to mine... I've been told my thyroid is enlarged. I have all the same symptoms but I'm yet to find out if it's the thyroid or something else. Food gets stuck in my throat because of it... yuk!
I had a retrograde goiter three years ago. The symptoms got really bad if I tipped my head back at the dentist or hairdressers I couldn't breathe. This was because it had grown into my windpipe and was causing choking due to the flap that stops food going into my windpipe could move. Initially because my thyroid test were ok they wouldn't beleive me, said it was indigestion. I lost my voice and finally because my daughter is a nurse on a cancer ward , she got one of the professors to check me out. After a special MRI the huge goiter was found I was told that it was so big I was near death. I've had the biggest part removed but still have half left in as it has grown around the nerve that supplies my heart and a major blood vessel. I have lost the use of one side of my vocal chords as they had to cut the nerve out of during surgery. Please get this checked out?
Find a FUNCTIONAL Medicine doctor / clinic! Conventional Docs will tell you your symptoms are all in your head like mine did!! Google Functional medicine directory to find docs close to you.
Ask for NATURAL thyroid med. Armour! Bio-identical!! My symptoms are gone for the first time in 14+ years!
I have a thyroid examination next week. Although I doubt it will be of any use, my doctor is dead set on the Tsh test and will not believe a word I say -_- every time I try to talk about it all i get in return is "well your Tsh is fine so there's no problem" it's so frustrating. I've not been diagnosed yet so asking for meds is off the table atm. Unless I self medicate I just get total rudeness and called fat so far. I calorie count and follow a diet of fruit vegetables and meat, no processed foods or junk food, I exercise several times a week doing various Cardio on treadmill and bike and weight lifting to, Ive done that for almost a year nd I'm only 2lb Down atm. Every time I lose weight it jumps on straight away again with no change or I don't lose weight at all. It's heartbreaking along with all my other symptoms I just feel absolutely awful. Sorry for the rant, lolls x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x
I could have written this myself. It is so frustrating as if we havent enough to deal with. My GP also wont do any thyroid tests other than TSH which comes back "normal" "no action" despite being raised. I badgered him for antibodies to be checked and when the blood results came back they showed everything but thyroid results. I too have massive weight issues despite trying everything to lose it. I did a 12 week course with a GP prescribed weight loss program and lost 1lb in 12 weeks despite following instructions to the book. They thought I was cheating/lying. They wont spend money on a simple blood test but they offer me gastric band op? NO THANKS! We know our bodies better than they do but because they are "trained" they dont think we know anything. I have just started probiotics and vitamin support and then I am going to self medicate NDT. I cant feel much worse than I do so Im going to go for it.
Now Im ranting! Gentle hugs Joolz.x
Hi JadeElise
Tried to respond earlier but my response doesn't seem to have appeared. I'm concerned that the responses above are discussing thyroid function and meds rather than the lump. If you go to GP and concentrate on the lump and swallowing etc. you should get a referral to ENT who will be much quicker than an endo in investigating the problem. I had a similar lump which made swallowing etc difficult and it was over a year before my endo stopped referring me for yet more ultrasound and passed me to ENT where the problem was investigated (and my thyroid removed - but that's another story). It turned out that with a direct referral from the GP I could have got on a 'rapid access lump in throat' clinic within two weeks. I'm in north west England but a similar system may exist elsewhere.
