Hari, Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Levothyroxine will bring down your wife's TSH and she will be monitored to see that it comes down to the low normal range 0.4-2.00 which is recommended for pregnant women. Her dose will be adjusted where necessary. Now your wife is getting replacement hormone the chance of miscarriage is reduced and your baby should develop well during the pregnancy.

Thans.....Now as she is taking levothyroxine sodium 50 mcg whar dr. had suggested. Let me know this problem is due to hormon changing because of pregnancy? Becauae before that everything waa normal. And one more thing will it be normalised quickly by regularly taking this medicine? I m worried due to this abnormality...

Hari, Pregnancy hormones will have triggered your wife's hypothyroidism. It will take 4/6 weeks to bring your wife's TSH into the normal range. She should have a follow up thyroid blood test 4/6 weeks after she started Levothyroxine to see whether her dose needs increasing.

Your wife should take her Levothyroxine with a full glass of water on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after food and drink, two hours away from other medication and supplements and four hours away from calcium, iron and oestrogen.

Hari, your wife should avoid any foods with soya in them as it is bad for the thyroid gland can affect absorption of Levothyroxine.

Vegetables like Kale, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli known as cruciferous veg can also affect the thyroid when eaten raw so they should be lightly cooked.
