when will i feel better
Sorry Wendy you are feeling rough.
Never mind that the doctor says you are 'normal' even if you feel anything but. Members who have Graves will respond.
Always get copies of your blood test results from the surgery, with the ranges, and post them for comments and to keep for your own records.
Normal for GP's is not always 'normal' for the patients, that's why it's important to have copies of your tests.
thanks Shaws my last test was as follows tsh 2,34 t4 -10.20 .t3 -2.45
It is necessary to put the ranges after your results as labs differ throughout the country. I will say, even though you feel hyper, that your TSH is too high and this is the recommendation of Dr Toft who was President of the BTA in a Pulse Online article:-
6 What is the correct dose of thyroxine and is there any rationale for adding in tri-iodothyronine?
The appropriate dose of levothyroxine is that which restores euthyroidism and serum TSH to the lower part of the reference range – 0.2-0.5mU/l.
In this case, free thyroxine is likely to be in the upper part of its reference range or even slightly elevated – 18-22pmol/l. Most patients will feel well in that circumstance.
But some need a higher dose of levothyroxine to suppress serum TSH and then the serum-free T4 concentration will be elevated at around 24-28pmol/l.
This ‘exogenous subclinical hyperthyroidism’ is not dangerous as long as serum T3 is unequivocally normal – that is, serum total around T3 1.7nmol/l (reference range 1.0-2.2nmol/l).
Yep, I hardly ever feel 'normal' even when I'm supposedly in remission. Like you I get a lot of hot flushes, headaches etc. I guess it's something due to having an autoimmune condition, so even though our thyroid levels are 'normal' our immune systems are still under pressure. I may be wrong but that's my theory!
Hi yes, I felt ok for a little while after my endocrinologist stopped my carbimazol but I felt worse than ever, rally bad palpitations, hot flushes, shakes and I ended up back at the GPS ans hospital in the end I had a full theyroidectomy as I was told radio iodine would not help graves disease I now feel better but it has taken 18 months to recover I had my opp when I was 24, you might just need to keep going to your GP for blood tests it took me 3 years before they decided to take my thyroid out . I now take 125 levothyroxine but I was on 200 then on 150mg it does take awhile to get it on the right track some people take h high dose for a few days then a lower dose, unfortunately it is alot of messing around and blood tests but it does get better I am now feeling the benefits and have been stable for 5 months hope you feel better soon
Hello,
Me too! Relapse with thyroid storm T4 - 79.9!!! 6 months ago, now T4- 15 but feel terrible. Still taking carbimazole 40mg and thyroidectomy planned for next Monday. Sweaty hands, hot flushes, feeling wired and can't sleep. Not nice is it? I'm trying to convince myself that this will pass but the more I read the less hopeful I am, still, seeing a nutritionist soon and starting exercise plan after surgery. We can but keep trying. Take care.
