I've stopped buying anti-bacterial soap but need some hand gel for when I'm out and about. Does non anti-bacterial hand gel actually exist?
Thanks!

I don't actually think it does - have you googled it ?
Hope you are well xx
Hi Sheena. Googling only shows up anti bacterial despite including the word 'non'.
Doing really well thanks apart from weight and getting out of breath!
Anti bacterial hand gel is not designed to clean hands only to kill bacteria and viruses. If hands are visibly soiled you need to wash them with soap and water, therefore I suspect a non anti bacterial gel would be pointless. Better to use baby wipes to clean the skin when out and about.
There are activated hydrogen peroxide wipes. But you need to keep them in a ziploc baggy if you have them in your handbag. cmmonline.com/articles/acti...
Isn't all soap anti-bacterial?
Knotty I think you are probably right in that even if soap isn't specifically labelled as antibacterial, the effect of using it, is:
"Antibacterial soaps are no more effective than plain soap and water for killing disease-causing germs.
Researchers from the University of Michigan School of Public Health reviewed 27 studies examining the safety and effectiveness of antibacterial products containing the active ingredient triclosan.
That includes most commercially available soaps, detergents and other products with the word 'antibacterial' on their labels, with the notable exception of alcohol-based hand gels.
Soaps containing triclosan at concentrations commonly seen in products sold to the public were found to be no better for killing bacteria and preventing infectious illness than soaps that did not contain triclosan.
Antibacterial soaps do not provide a benefit above and beyond plain soaps for generally healthy people."
Good old fashioned soap is the best option!
what's wrong with antibacterial soap? .. I use it all the time, is it bad :/
Thanks for the replies all. I'm a frequent hand washer so keep some in my handbag, in the car to use after filling up with petrol and in my backpack when I go cycling.
I guess I could use wipes except they dry out quickly so would be replacing very regularly.
Lidl usually have some. (Unfortunately they haven't for ages had their very nice Aloe vera flavour one. )
Rod
Thanks Rod, will investigate.
Have a look at tea tree oil products which I find in some health food shops.
Mary
Ah, hadn't thought of tea tree oil! Thanks MaryMary and hope you're keeping well.
I forgot - there is also collodial silver which is antiseptic xx
