Is this normal. I have gone from 50 mcg to 75 and I just can not get warm. Seems to effect me more at night. I have blankets and everything. Any suggestions ?

Happy, you are low iron and low B12, so it's to be expected that energy is low and generating heat is difficult when the mitochondria can't produce the energy required. It takes time to boost everything.

I use an electric heating pad (set on low and underneath 4 layers of bath towel) to keep my back warm. (I'm not freezing cold like you are, just warming up the muscles that hurt like h..l). Sometimes you gotta warm a body up. Have you tried getting into a nice warm bath before bedtime. Give a good epsom salt soak (get that magnesium into the body too)........ It stimulates blood flow in the skin and muscles.

Years ago I had a mattress cover that contained heating coils (made by Sunbeam). I slept in a freezing cold bedroom but the heat from below was pure luxury. I love to breathe cold air when I sleep but have a nice toasty warm bed. Heat rises........so the air inside the duvet was beautiful.

There's a Buddhist breathing and visualizing technique which can in a matter of minutes take a shivering body to a hot body. But you need to study a bit of meditation, breathing and visualizing to make it work. I've done it a few times after 40 minutes or was still freezing and shivering underneath a duvet. I thought, okay, this technique is supposed to work. Close your eyes, slow down and regulate the breathing from the diaphragm and imagine something that gives you a sense of warmth, whatever it is. Suntanning on the beach... sitting in front of a fire......whatever, it's intensely personal what warms up the soul. I did it and a few minutes later my feet were red hot. It was phenomenal. I was totally blown away! I think it lowers the sympathetic nervous system...no more shivering, and raises the parasympathetic tone. My feet turned hot and toasty. Same with hands. My whole body turned hot and toasty. Then I fell asleep. But spent a few minutes marvelling at what the body/mind connection can accomplish. It was a wow! Yes, I was hypo at the time (under dosed). Also had low ferritin, mwah B12, low vitamin d3........ Not terrible super human but this worked really well. If you can do it once, you can do it always.

When in desperation, a hot bath will get the blood going even if you are on the 'improvement curve' in regards to ferritin and B12.

Buddhists must have had some nutritional deficiencies too.

I find that if I get cold it takes such I long time without extra help to warm up. The body seems to go in hibernation mode which is what happens when the metabolic rate is low. The heated pad sounds an excellent idea!

Are you sure you are now adequately medicated? I only feel cold if I am not taking enough Levothyroxine. Do you have recent test results?

I've felt coolness around me either overmedicated or under medicated oddly enough.

Though when I'm under medicated the feeling is different. It's as if my body is surrounded by cold air when it's not. If I drink something cold it chills me instantly, and it takes hours to gain back the right temperature and then only by adding a blanket.

When I'm overmedicated it feels as if cool breezes flow around me and then suddenly turn into heat. Very odd feeling.

When I'm just right, a rarity UNTIL I started taking big doses of B12 spread throughout the day, if I get cooled by a drink or an open window my body takes about 30 minutes to recover. I can be cool and climb under the covers and my body warms me up naturally. What a concept! I think that would be deemed normal. Wow! I'm normal. Finally.

I'm experiencing the cold breeze feeling then suddenly turning into a burning cold sweat.

I still have the occasional phase where I can't get warm and I'm taking NDT!!! I go to bed and switch on the electric blanket till I thaw out!!

Thanks for replies. Can't rem if was like this last time. But I got 3 things wrong. I just expected to feel better after after one injection which is stupid of me really. Think the iron tablets are helping though.
