Does your blood get drawn at an endocrinologist appointment or at a separate appointment with a nurse?

John, I'm given a thyroid function test (TFT) order form at the end of my endo consultation and have the test done at the hospital phlebotomy dept 1-4 weeks prior to the next consultation. Other people have their TFT at their GP surgery and take a printout of results to their endo consultation.

When I was at Cov & Warwick Hosp, and also at Kent, I had them done straight after leaving the Endos office at each hospital.

Forgot to add that the longish wait for bloods at Cov is mitigated by there being a Costa in the waiting area

I've always been given a form for my next blood tests at the end of my endo visit. Once the appointment date is sent to me I book a blood test at my GP surgery for exactly a week before my hospital visit. So yes, it is done by the practice phlebotomist a week in advance if my endo visit.

I also have my blood test a couple of weeks prior to my next appointment with the endo. It gives them time to get the results entered on to my records so the endo can see what progress there is (if any).

Hello. I always have my blood taken from a nurse at the GP's surgery.

I have had Hypothyroidism for about 40 years, un-diagnosed for at least ten, and have never seen or been referred to an endocrinologist, despite having periods of being quite unwell. I recently joined this community and bought the Thyroid UK pack,(excellent) unfortunately, there were no Doctors recommended anywhere near where I live (up North :-) ).

GPs/Endocrinologists appear to be quite knowledgeable and specialise in diabetes (I only know from friends who are diabetic so not proven!) but seem to think if your thyroid blood tests are within their acceptable range, patients are just imaging every symptom.

I recently had breast cancer and was amazed, gratified and so grateful for the incredible treatment I received. I never had to fight for it and/or become totally stressed out before each appointment. The NHS can be superb and I feel so lucky. The specialist spent over 60 minutes with me on my first appointment, never mind the nurses and rest of the team, they were just wonderful.

Now awaiting appointment with nurse on Friday to see which blood tests Dr has agreed to, I tried to make an appointment to see a GP first but could only talk to one over the phone....................annoyingly I was so well prepared to see the doctor this time, thanks to the advice received on here, but when he phoned I could not find my glasses to read the list of recommended blood tests......you have to laugh.

Sorry this has gone on a bit, I am just venting.

I usually have a blood test form sent to me a few weeks before my Endo appointment. My appointment is normally on a friday so I have my blood test on the monday or tuesday of that week, by the nurse at the GP surgery.
