I don't really understand the process, but tiredness early in the day is a primary feature of hypo. I certainly felt worse earlier.

I have a problem with energy in the morning , as there is none, and my muscles ache. I did have some ringing in my ears, but that has stopped, but I have plenty of energy in the evening, and time to go to bed, I am not ready, have to take sleeping pill. That is interesting that someone else has this problem, I am not the only one.

Louwelsa,

It's quite common. Have you tried taking Levothyroxine at night instead of in the morning?

Hi, I take my Armour about 3 A.M. so that it is far away from any food. I have been taking it for 63 years. I will be 80 in Oct. I cannot take T4 by itself at all. I was diagnosed before Levo was on the market and TSH was a test and the Doctors have tried to switch me and lived to regret it. Thanks for the input.

I can't take T4 alone either, need T3 to stop T4 side effects. It's outrageous that drs try to change meds when they're working well.

Why not try Armour at 3pm and see if that shifts your body clock?

Hi Louwelsa,

Wow you're an Armour veteran!!, would you consider writing a post on your experiences over the years with Armour. How your Doctors first medicated you and monitored you before the TSH was available? I'm sure many of us here would love to hear about your experiences. I most certainly would.

I'll second that. It would be interesting to hear the pros and cons of treatment pre TSH testing and its subsequent misuse.

Hi Joesmum, I can remember being 16 and had no desire to be active, and had insomnia, also constipation since I can remember, all I wanted to do is sit around the house look out the window and knit. My parents finally took me to a M.D.and he gave me a metabolism test and said I had the metabolism of a vegetable, so he gave me Armour thyroid. I became a more normal teenager and they took me back for checks and they upped my dosage a couple of times, I do not how they arrived at what dosage, probably just the way I felt. I have had fights thru the years of getting it. Different Doctors . would put me on Synthroid. and would have to put me back on Armour, as I would become a vegetable again . One Doctor took the thyroid medication away from me 2 weeks before I was to go in for back fusion. I had to have someone to drive 10 mi. to get me to drive me a mile to the Doctors office, I laid my head on his desk and he yelled YOUR DEPRESSED YOU DON'T NEED THYROID. He gave me an antidepressant , I went home, took half of it and 1/2 hr. later fell to the ground. Called the Doctor and he let me have 5mg., Of course that didn't help much , so I kept calling and got all of my Armour back. Sorry so long, and you ask for my story but it has been many years, at 80 I don't think they will toy with me again.

Hope all is well with you. Louwelsa

Maybe you need a slight adjustment of your dose of Armour. Have you had a recent blood test and if you post the results with the ranges it will be helpful.

Dear Angela,

I have had similar including Muscle aches. For the las 10 months I have taken 125 Levothyroxin during the night about 4 am. This insures that i have not eaten or drank anything for at least 2 hours either side of medication and any other tablets which should not be taken for four hours each side of Levo are able to be taken correctly. Before I did this I could hardly get up without terrible muscle aches which very often woke me early are prevented me from getting back to sleep. Now sometimes I ache a bit at night and feel tired but it's a much better way to function.

You could be a night owl, as opposed to a lark Angela. Apparently it's all in our genes. I'm from a family of night owls.

There's an article on the BBC about the research. bbc.co.uk/news/health-25777978

That is an idea, but it would be more difficult, I would really have to think about it to make sure I didn't grab a piece of cheese or something. I am not a controlled person, but it might be worth a try.
