What happens is that you have a problem!
There are a tiny number of related substances which have been used to treat and/or experimentally such as TRIAC and dextrothyroxine. The number of people who get diagnosed and treated like this is tiny. So low that I wouldn't even call these substances "other options".

I want to share something with you and the entire community, if they will listen. A few months ago, I had my DNA analysis done by 23&me, before the FDA made them stop giving out results information. My results were that I had eight gene snp's that were defective. They were involved in the Methylation Cycle for processing B12 and folic acid. They were actually the backdoor to an enzyme called MTHFR, which, when defective causes build up of folic acid which the body cannot utilize. The build up of the folic acid causes mood swings, inability of the body to convert Thyroxin into T3. Also causes Ammonia build up, increased homocysteine, extremely high cholesterol, leads to high blood pressure and atherosclerosis. There are adverse effects when sulfur containing drugs or foods are consumed. This type of defect may be the reason that the body is not able to absorb the T3. I am learning how to combat these problems. The fact that I am a nurse, and I have been researching all of my adult life, I am more open to experimenting on myself, I am following the directions of a Dr. from "Genetic Genie". I would be open to sharing some of my supplement regime if you thought it might help, but just a caution, you cannot take one thing and "run" with it, it takes a balanced regime to make it work. For example: Riboflavin (B2) is the factor to make Thyroxin convert to T3, but without understanding the rest of the B vitamins and what versions of them you need the build up of the folic acid will prevent the utilization of the B2.
