perhaps a better way to put question; has anyone ever had a urine test--to see if they are deficient in iodine ? either on nhs or privately.

ahhh yes that is the test-- i was referring to had already asked that specif question, but no one replied--that is the exact test i am looking to have done as well--after reading dr.david brownsteins book on iodine, among others --i know how important it is to have the loading test--not just the " normal urine 24hr test without the iodine loading---had that test 3 years ago & docs dismiss it and it's results--cause they say well it is only representative of the last 3 or 4 days-- then why the heck is it so difficult to get the proper iodine test which shows up a real deficiency or not a real ridiculous situation, they don't take iodine as seriously here as they do in the US or Japan--- however can i just say that if your son could only get the regular 24hr urine iodine test--it still is an indication if he is deficient or not on the day, so if his diet has been the same over a long period of time and he has not been subjected to nasty halides bromide chlouride flouride etc. and some raw veggies then you can get some idea of where he stands.. i was lo under the lab ranges and was told oh it's only the last few days & i replied BUT my diet hadn't changed in 5 years--so i have been lo for all that time--they went into mental denial--they just couldn't comprehend --please let us know if you get someone to do it---best wishes

Yes I recently had one done privately by a clinic in Norway it cost me about £90. If you want further details please PM me.

hi, can you please say if it was the 24hour--iodine urine loading test?? or just the regular 24hour iodine urine test?? it is the loading part that is of importance, thank you

Sorry but I think I must have got mixed up, the test I did I just had to dip a strip into urine put it in a sealed container and then send it off to Norway. They then told me whether I was iodine deficient or not - fortunately I was not. Sorry can't be of more help.

whew well i am gobsmacked--90 quid that is i'm afraid a new one on any expert-- a 24 collected specimen tells little more than over the ladt couple of days, and endo on nhs will do this for free--but it sooo limited, the proper test is an iodine loading 24 hour urine collection test where you take tabs of iodine and see how much if any gets excreted and that gives a true picture of iodine def--never ever heard one could dip stick and learn the real truth---sorry but ....... see dr. david brownstein---he is the authority, i would get the nhs one at least & it is free...

I have been using iodine drops on my forearm, 3, and it is being absorbed. I once learnt that if you do not need iodine it will remain on the outside of your skin and if you are deficient it will be absorbed

in reply to cumberbach

The skin test patch was debunked years ago I'm afraid.

As this thread is over nine years old, you are unlikely to get many replies. I see that Hidden has replied - I agree and add the information below. But will now close the thread to further replies. If you wish to discuss further, please make a new post.

Why the iodine patch test is not appropriate for indicating iodine status.

Thanks for this I may be getting mixed up I've had so many tests over the last few years that I don't know whether I'm coming or going. Good luck with your search - hope it comes to fruition.
