Yes, if u have the antibodies u have hashimoto'S. Never let an nhs gp tell u your tsh is normal, get the result and ref ranges. With antibodies that high i would be surprised if your tsh was an optimal level

Have been to see my nurse practitioner today and she said my tsh was 4.0 and within normal range and has never altered over the last 3 years of testing but their concern is my high antibody test which I had to request as I was convinced I was hypothyroid my mum has had it since she was 35 and my brother has just been diagnosed and we all display essentially the same symptoms It just really annoys me that I had to make my Dr think I was neurotic before he would send me for a full blood screening I am seeing the endo specialist in may so we will see what they say x

Yes I am taking futilium 800 daily as the Dr was quite concerned at my levels but he won't give a diagnosis or treatment options until I have seen the endocrinologist

Yeh 800iu wont do much to your levels but the endo should know more im taking 5000 a day for two months then retesting mine was 20mnol. My gp didnt help either .

My brother has also recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and his gp has put him on 800 but once a week he has to top up with 20,000! But he hasn't been referred to a specialist go figure different Dr's treat this Condition so differently which is why I am on here trying to find out as much about it as I can

The top-up is called a loading dose, and it is the correct way to treat a severe vit d deficiency, so it sounds like your brother's gp is well-informed. Revised thinking about vit d says 800iu is still c low even as a maintenance supplement so he may need to be on more after the loading dose is finished just to keep him from becoming deficient again. Good for you for educating yourself. :-)

Check here for loading dose guidelines: imperialendo.com/for-doctor... I was as deficient as you are and now that I've got my levels a bit better I take 2000 per day and am considering taking 3000 as I'm not yet at the optimal level.

As sezzy says, 800iu is a useless dose, possibly low even for someone with brilliant test results but absolutely pointless and a waste of your efforts if you're deficient.

My gp was useless too. I sense a theme. :-)

I am so angry that for the last 5 or 6 years I have requested thyroid blood tests which they have duly sent me for but only for basic tft and tsh which surprise surprise were always within normal ranges even though I have constantly complained With what I have come to realise are classic symptoms tiredness, cold all the time dry skin lack of concentration throat nodules (which were removed in 2004) and a feeling of having a thick throat/neck but the Dr's have completely ignored this and the fact that my mum had an under active thyroid following her pregnancies and was on thyroxine at 35 is this condition not deemed serious enough for the Dr's to want to treat?

My impression as a layperson is that they're panicky about high thyroid levels, but they're not really worried about low thyroid levels.

You can use much higher doses of Vit D safely.

I take 10.000 iu daily during autumn and winter to keep my levels over 100.
