Hi susie, I don't think it's unusual to have to change your management of Hashimoto. In the meantime your vitamin levels can be affected by the condition and you find your B12 is low and vitamin D which is so important can sink which can cause pain, less resistance to infection, etc. If you don't keep your FT3 optimal it can affect your bones, your heart, your breathing, since every cell in your body needs thyroid, a lot of things can feel wrong. Sometimes you have to do more than change your dose. Stress may cause cortisol problems and limit the use of your hormone treatment.

This five minute video explains one of the complications of Hashimoto.

Interesting video. Food for thought. I have had thyroid problems for over 20 years. Was on Levo last year - got much worse - all the symptoms you had plus, a lot of weight gain, so am now trying Erfa. I also take extra B12, Vit D and have adrenal fatigue due to years of stress. I have also just found out I have osteoporosis - to make life even more difficult. I wish that I didn't have to find all the information I need for myself because the doctors just don't know enough about how to manage it or are not interested in knowing more. Over the years it has cost me thousand of pounds of treatments like osteopathy and private doctors just to try and get by day to day. That's not nearly good enough in my book. I hope Erfa works for you.

I've had hashimotos for 25 years and had been stable for 20 of them. Around 5 years ago started getting pains, insomnia, grinding teeth and depression. Through much pain staking research, and a lightbulb moment realised that the tablets I had been taking for years - which started out as thyroxine, was now levo thyroxine and the brand was mercury pharma. I just hadn't really noticed it morphing into a generic brand of levo thyroxine. I tried my mums brand of levo thyroxine and felt much better. I'm now on Erfa and feel a lot better. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the NHS over the years has plumped for the cheapest brands of levo and personally these forms of thyroxine had side effects for me. Check out what brand /generic you are on - it may have implications
