Just to clarify - what is happening when T4 and T3 are low? What causes this?

Are you on thyroid meds? If not, your thyroid has for some reason (in the case of Hashimoto's it's being attacked by your body's immune system) stopped making adequate amounts of thyroid hormone, and if you're on meds, you're not replacing the amount of thyroid hormone your body needs and your thyroid is no longer able to make. Does that make sense?

I have just recently been put on Erfa, a low dose of 30mg, which has made a difference, but not by anyway a massive difference, but I am functional again. The question was from my husband, as looking at his bloods yesterday, our forum decided that he was indeed hypo as I had suspected. No, I am trying to explain to him why his T4 and T3 are low! XX

seriously though, it would be interesting to see how many hypo men get offered antidepressants compared with hypo women. Not that I'm accusing gps of sexism or anything!
