I have hashi's and I seem to have become alcohol intolerant overnight. If I have an alcoholic drink now, I get a headache immediately.

Hi Jaie I became alcohol intolerant a few years ago before I was diagnosed hypo. I would feel like I had a huge hangover after one drink. I have no desire to drink any alcohol anymore.

Me too. I find that with me wine is worse than g&t.

Yes I go through phases of being able to have a drink and not. Sometimes up to 6 month periods where I don't drink. Plus I feel dizzy and hungover half the time anyway don't need the vino making it worse!!

If I drink alcohol I get a pounding headache that night and for the next 2 days. I have always drank water as well so it is not dehydration. I have tried different drinks, with food etc., but that doesn't help. If I do drink, I seem to feel the effect more quickly. 'Sorry this hasn't helped with the why does it happen?' aspect of your question. Does anyone else know? A total guess, if you are running slowly your body processes it slowly so it stays in your system longer ???

I cured headaches by avoiding caffeine, and found I could drink a little alcohol and be ok, as long as I didn't do it too often. Tolerate alcohol much better now on T3, no headaches, but it more often caused me palpitations, which are just as problematic as headaches! I developed a taste for virgin / alcohol free cocktails

I stopped drinking 10 years ago because the hangovers, after having a small amount of alcohol, were so debilitating it was taking days to recover.

I've always had an issue with hangovers that last two or three days, but to be fair this was after an excess of alcohol. These days wine makes me feel too drunk too fast and white wine now gives me sinusitis and a sore throat. I have the odd glass of red with dinner once or twice a month.

At the moment I drink beer, which I can tolerate pretty well, except for the anxiety I feel the next day if I have had even a tiny bit more than is wise.

i had that too - couldn't understand why my friends could drink so much and I would feel dreadful if i had more than two glasses (a lot more than some people on here can take I know!) - it was more than just a hangover - it was debilitating and would last for ages and I would get really thirsty -I used to wonder how they recovered and why they drank so much if it made you feel really awful - now I am on T3 only I seem to be normal - and have now had an hangover (after drinking too much!!) that I recovered from much more quickly, wasn't much more than a headache and wasn't anywhere near as bad as the ones I used to have - if there is any such a thing as normal hangover - thats what I had - and it felt wonderful

I drank 2 glasses of Baileys on Sunday night (to celebrate finishing painting my fence!) and I've still got the bleeding headache. I'm gutted. I love Baileys!

I get this too, started many years before diagnosed with hypo thyroid.

It's also a problem with gallbladders and livers, the liver can't process the alcohol and you get the worst type hangover within a short time of drinking. Most of my headaches are right side of face, start under the eye and move up. This is a sign of gallbladder problems.

Do you have any discomfort under the right shoulder blade? If so it might be gallstones.

If I drink, very rare, it's cider or champagne, I sometimes get away without headache.
