I had a TT 9 days ago and have developed a tickly cough that is driving me crazy. It's a sudden tickle in my throat that causes a violent dry cough. I didn't sleep more than about 20mins straight last night and tonight's looking the same. Is this a coincidence or to do with the TT? And will coughing so much affect my recovery?

Total thyroidectomy and tickly cough.
Hi amn, I'd guess it's either from the anaesthetic or from the tube which could have scratched your throat a little. I believe it's quite common. I had the same after my appendix op, nightmare! Hope it eases soon.
Ann, It may be as Sazzyb said or it may just be a tickly cough. Try a glass of hot water with a thick slice of lemon and 2 tsp honey. also take a 2nd glass that can be sipped during the night. The honey seems to oil the throat in a way which plain water doesn't.
What about steaming your face over a bowl of hot water, with your mouth open, that might help? Hope it eases soon x
I had a hemithyroidectomy last Thursday and keep getting a really dry patch in my throat which makes me cough. I'm drinking loads of water but it doesn't touch it. However, I'm also taking some Benylin Dry Cough mixture and it's really helping. Hope you get some sleep soon, lack of it makes you feel grim, doesn't it?
Sorry that you have this dry tickly cough. It seems to be quite usual after a thyroid op. Had a sub-total in 1978 and was not treated at all until 1997 and had the cough all that time. Recently it has come back since change of medication from Eltroxin. Janet.
I have a thickly cough all the time when I am undermedicated.xxx
