My op is this coming Monday the 10th of March.

The blog is very professional looking and will be helpful to future patients. I look forward to following your progress.

Arriving back on the day ward I was bursting for the loo and demonstrated my ignorance by expressing surprise, not having liquids for 18 hours. Nurse advised me that I had, in fact, intravenously had several litres flowing through me.

I was a bit groggy after GA but as I had barely slept the night before and could sleep it off that wasn't a problem.

Your blog is v timely for me - I have the same op coming up on Thursday. You didn't mention the MRSA checks at your pre-op visit which involved rubbing q-tips in the nostrils and groin area - weird! We have followed a very similar pathway in our preparation for the op so I'll be looking for any postings you make to see whether I have missed anything. I have included a bottle of water and some juice cartons on my hospital packing list but I'm not taking any expensive electronic stuff as the nurse was keen for me to know that theft occurs in the hospital, even from locked lockers. I'll be thinking of you on Monday and hope all goes well for you. xx

Hi Discovery - oh yes thanks for that - I had missed out the MRSA swabs - will go back and edit that post right now!

You are being very wise about the electronic items but I wouldn't be able to update my blog without them. Also, they are an essential requirement for a nerd like me as well as being excellent for distraction ;). If i could ever plug one directly into my brain I probably would do so! lol

Thanks. It's Monday night and I've been thinking about you all day and hope you're doing really well already. Looking forward to reading the blog - don't make it too scary even tho' I'm feeling pretty brave about Thursday at the moment!!

Hi Discovery,

All went well yesterday - the worst part is my sore throat caused by the intubation tube removal. I hadn't anticipated that at all!

If I'd known I may have bought some of those analgesic throat tablets with me. I asked the nurse here and they said there was nothing they could give me other than pain killers.

I did a few posts on my blog yesterday - be warned there are images of my neck drain and canular but other than that there's nothing too gross
