taking me so long to get over sedation..
I think you will find as with most things everyone reacts differently I had the same procedure with midazolam and was fine by next morning hope you feel better soon x
,
I didn't feel sleepy but my gut was doing strange things and noises for a few days after ...hope your better soon
I read somewhere that a full anaesthetic affects your metabolism for about 4 months and having had an op. last August I found that to be about right. Running on those lines any form of anae. will probably have some affect on hypo. people which is why sleeping tablets are not a good idea . In the end I went to see a homeopath but have since been told that garlic is good. Hope you are feeling better soon.
I had a bad experience with midazolam. I had a short op under GA. I was given midazolam and fentanyl without consent. Felt awful for about 3 months after: chronic fatigue and brain fog. As usual, i had to do my own research to find that both of these are contra indicated with hypoT.
that's awful,, I'm gonna look into the contra indication issue, but there are times you just have to have it,, I once had a colonoscopy,, no way I'd ever have that without sedation,, Thanks for reply
Thanks for info Bluedaffodil, but wish I didn't know this. Now I will be wondering about every little problem with him. (Really thank you for this info as we all need to know this, but wonder why the medics don't). Janet.
Midazolam is pretty OK and very short acting and 5mg is a really small dose. I had 5mg for my endoscopy and remember everything! They had offered 10mg and I refused so that was my problem but 10mg is the normal dose for such a procedure. It leaves the body really quickly. Fentanyl is very different as it is an Opioid and can make you feel under par for a while and a general anaesthetic is even more long lasting taking days to recover from sometimes. Obviously everyone is different but my choice of sedation is Midazolam as I have always found it to be symptom free (it doesn't make you feel weird) and small doses have no effects afterwards. It is very effective and of course it makes you forget things (it is the date rape drug).
Thanks,, didn't know that about dosing,, my guts have been upset since that day and wondering if I have some bug or inflamed guts instead,, it does make more sense I suppose,, do you think adrenal glands are affected by any chance?
Hi, just by chance my son had this done this afternoon, and was given Midazolam. He went down at 4.30 pm and was back by 5.30 pm. About 5.45 he 'came to' and wanted to sit up. He had got a piece of meat stuck in the oesophagus (for the fourth time, over about 20 years though). As he is in 24 hour care we were not with him when it happened this time, and so everyone thought he had a bug. This happened on Sunday evening and we didn't realise that he had something stuck until Tuesday afternoon. He was taken to A & E and admitted, put on a drip and had the endoscopy this afternoon. All is well and we are to find out the diagnosis tomorrow. So far he seems to have come to fairly quickly and looks back to his usual colour. My son is only on 75 mg Levo, plus hydrocortisone, Metformin, Gliclazide and Testogel. His stomach doesn't appear to be upset, but of course he hasn't eaten anything since Sunday afternoon. Hope you are soon well. Janet.
