Confused again!!!!

Not sure about a few things my TSH is suppressed now but my T4 is also low is that right or should it be TSH suppressed T4 should be high.

My TSH is 0.07 (range 0.5-5.4) and my T4 is 9 (range 11-20)

Which way round should it be and what effect does it have if it is this low.

Thanks

Tina

Your T4 should be in the upper third which would be around 17 with that range. It is a little strange that your TSH would be that low. I would think they would want to increase your dose of T4 (of course, if you are taking T3, this would be normal. How do you feel? From the time you take your pill, it goes through a few processes in which other organs eventually contribute T3 to your cells. Also, when did you take your medication with regard to when they drew blood for your test? If you stopped your levo for more than a day, possibly it would lower your result. Any of these things have a bearing on your results.

They reduced my dose from 200mcg to 150mcg and when I had my last blood test I was taking my tablets in the evening but now I have started taking my tablets in the morning before breakfast. I always feel tired and all my extremities ache but that is due to arthritis which I have in both my hands my feet, right knee and top half of my spine. All this was found out when I went to see a Rhuematologist last year. At 1 point I did stop taking my levo for 2 weeks which had a very bad effect on me so I wont be doing that again.

Well, here are two articles that aren't too long from STTM and may help you understand.

I initially had primary hypothyroidism (TSH above range), and after years of being well on thyroxine I developed secondary hypothyroidism as well (TSH low within range, T4 very low within range and T3 below range). Endo said he was puzzled until I asked if it were possible to have two conditions (i.e. primary and seconary). He thought a bit and agreed that was a possibility.
