I don't know too much about it all as im new to it and only "borderline" but all I can say is its affected me hugely, I had nearly all the symptoms of underactive (HYPO) thyroid. ive been on Thyroxine for 111 weeks and feel so much better. Worst symptoms were fatigue, itching all over, bruising, hairloss, loss of interest in my partner/libido dipped... still get cold hands but I can live with that!!

Im sure more experienced peeps will explain better

If your Free T4 level is at the bottom of the range, or a little below, then you almost certainly need to be treated.

Have a look here:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

And look around the site. There is a list of hypothyroid symptoms - which you might find useful in identifying any issues you have which could be put down to low thyroid hormone levels.

My own TSH was only a tiny bit over top of range, and FT4 around the lower end of the scale, when diagnosed. Taking levothyroxine has helped all sorts of things - many of which are not often associated with thyroid.

Do ask questions here as you need.

I was borederline for years and doc wouldn.t treat me ,until just after christmas, ask them to test your antibodies. This is why i.m finally being treated after seeing another doctor and retesting my antibodies as last ones was taken 3 years ago ,i was found to be hypor even though my thyroid level is saying normal. I.d keep at them if i was you.

This is what my test result states, serum free T4 level 13.400pmol/L (12-22) NB ft4 is lower in second and third trimester of pregnancy (9.7 to 17.0) (8.4 to 15.6 ). Serum TSH level 4.840 mu/L 0 (0.27- 4.2) then it goes on to state that the clinical Details are that im Hypothyroid on T4 discuss with doctor. my so called doctor who is new to me asked me when i was diagnosed with thyroid problems, to which i said since i was 6 and she said what 6months and i said no 6yrs old, to which she asked what dose am i normally on, i said 125mgs a day which i take in the morning, but the last doctor told me i was on to higher dose and dropped it to 100mgs a day for 3 months, literally two days of being on a 100mgs i started to feel slower, in everything, my neck problems started up again, i couldnt go to the toilet, my speech got slurrey, and my labido disapeared. The new doctor said, well i dont know what to do, i said increase my dose again please, which she did but only on a one other day basis, and the first day i took the extra 25mgs i felt better already. But it amazes me that the doctors really dont have a clue, about thyroid problems, and they certainly dont listen to the patient, it is our body we should know how better it functions on different dose,s. Thanks everyone for your replys.
