Can I continue to use the Hyperhidrosis cream which I have used to control the sweating for many years? Could this be contributing to the hyperthyroidism? I have seen one comment on-line but it didn't indicate what the conflict between the hyperthyroidism and using the cream might be.
I have hyperthyroidism - since Oct 2013. I also... - Thyroid UK
I have hyperthyroidism - since Oct 2013. I also have Hyperhidrosis of the head for which I use Glycopyrronium Bromide on my face and throat.
Hi dicovery I dont know about the cream as I have not used it but I have hyperhydrosis and hyperthyroidism too.I was only diagnosed with overactive thyroid 8 eeeks ago.During the last year the sweating has been uncontrable so I thought it was the hyperhydrosis going off the scale. However since startimg on carbimozole to control my thyroid the sweating has almost completly gone and I have had this problem all my life even having surgery to stop my hands from pouring with sweat.I was wondering if you have had any improvement with anti thyroid treatments ad regards the sweating, Sorry I cant answer your specific question about the cream but woulf be interestef to know how your hyperthyroidism affectef the hyperhydrosis
Thanks for your reply. My experience with 'off the scale' sweating was exactly the same as yours - running off my head like a waterfall! I also thought it was the next stage of hyperhidrosis and was slathering the cream on my face and neck to try and control it. Since taking Carbimazole, the sweating has all but gone. I have also experienced what it's like to feel cold for the first time in my life. I was warm on a visit to the Antarctic so I feel as if I never want to stop taking the Carb. although I know that's not going to be an option. Enjoy the sweat-free experience while it lasts!
Glad you hetting some relief with the sweating? Maybe everyone with hyperhydrosis should have thyroid levels checked.Yes its lovely to feel cooler at last.Every cloud has a silver lining!
In two weeks I am due to get the surgery for hand sweating but I am really starting to doubt whether it is the right decision after reading so many forums where people have regretted having it. Randomly, today I came across hyperthyroidism after google searching why my eyelashes are falling out. A lot of the symptoms seem similar to a lot of the things I deal with. I am always tired, anxious, sweat when made anxious, low blood pressure, fast metabolism, terrible circulation etc. I booked an appointment to see my GP straight away as I would hate to think I went ahead and got major surgery for something I didn't even have! Is it more likely to be caused by hyperthyroidism? I have the doctors next week so hopefully they will test me for it
Hyperhidrosis of the face and scalp is not one of the regions for which they will carry out surgery as it has not been hugely successful in the past so I haven't really followed the idea through at all. However, I have read that you can develop sweating in other parts of the body following the op I imagine you are referring to in your post. Have you tried electrophoresis? I sympathise with your hand sweating hugely. Excessive sweating seems such an odd thing to complain about when you read of conditions other people have, but it does have a major impact on everyday life. I have experienced 3 months without hyperhidrosis since being put on Carbimazole for hyperthyroidism and it has been wonderful.
I lost a stone and a half in a matter of weeks before my diagnosis but you're doing the right thing to get yourself tested. You need to ask at your practice whether you could have a blood test a few days before your appointment so that the doctor has some results to look at when you go. Do hope you get everything sorted out to your satisfaction. No one wants an op unnecessarily or unsuccessfully.
Thank you for your reply! I am very unsure about this surgery now and wish I had longer to get tested for my thyroid, maybe I will see if I can postpone it until then. The surgery seemed like the final option until I read it might be caused by my thyroid. Although I started sweating around the age of 13 so not sure how early a thyroid condition would usually start? So did you suffer from severe hand sweating and now nothing? That would be a dream come true! I had my first child last year and I'm sure it's worse since then
My sweating is of the face and scalp and I'm pretty sure I first noticed it when I was about 8 or 9 years old. My mother had it too but not as severely. My thyroid problem was only diagnosed last October and I'm in my 60s now. I'm not experiencing the excessive sweating at the moment but I guess it will return when I come off the thyroid medication. Hope you manage to sort out what to do soon especially in view of the irreversible nature of the op you are considering.
Please please investigate all options before surgery, destroying nerves is irreversible (I know of people who have had sympathectomies for pain and they regret it) J
