Thank you for your replies. I actually had been to the GP five times since the anaemia diagnosis a year ago, feeling unwell with recurring chest infections, and each time mentioned how my anaemia wasn't improving. I saw my gyne for my annual check up and he thought the anaemia was a mal abosorbtion problem, and I also had a hip replacement and caused concern in the hospital because I was so weak. The doctor I saw in October said she also thought it was thyroid related, so many opportunities were missed.
I have had four feet of bowel removed, fortunately without the need for a bag, also some lymph nodes which were diseased. I gather I shall probably have to be given chemo, but will not know this for certain until In see my consultant on the 27th.
I am pleased to say that I am making a very good recovery and have returned home after seven days in hospital.
Good news that you now at home and recovering from your ordeal but shameful that so may, so called, consultants missed your bodies obvious signs that something was seriously wrong. Strange how doctors are always telling us off from putting everything down to our thyroid illness and did exactly the same to you - lets hope they have learnt their lessons and think outside the box with the next thyroid patient.
Wishing you the very best of luck and fingers crossed that it will be good news on the 27th. Please keep us posted.
Shameful the way you've been treated. Medicine seems to be divided into specialities with no one taking an holistic overview how dysfunction in one area impacts on another.
I hope you're spared chemo and make a good recovery.
I do take some responsibility for not being diagnosed earlier as I was feeling so lethargic I probably should have asked for a referral to a gastro sooner. With so many medical problems it is easy for the root cause to be overlooked.
