.....thank you Hampster1 - wonder how much of this very valuable information will filter through to GP surgeries ?

in reply to Marz

Well my doctor's surgery will certainly be getting a copy! ;-)

Hi hampster

Many thanks for that, my daughter is seeing an endo tomorrow. I posted recently that her cortisol test came back at 46 so she is at stage 5. I am not quite sure after reading, if at stage 5 it means G.P. should have administered 100mg hydrocortisone IV or if it means the endo will do it.

Will print off and take with us.

Best wishes browny

The protocol is for GP's, I read stage 5 as the GP commencing treatment whilst urgently referring to an Endo. However since you're seeing the Endo tomorrow then I would take it up with them. But I would be tempted to send a copy to your GP - I think they should have acted on your daughter's result, what would have happened if you couldn't go private?

Yes I will send a copy to our G.P. and I was just thinking the same, if she had not gone private she would not have been seen so quick.

I am thinking now of asking for the cortisol test myself as I am hypo and do not feel well. I have just got my Active B12 test result back and it is 107 range 25 - 108 which I am surprised about as my serum was 377 range 180 - 1100

I have posted a question on the other forum.

I am hoping we can get my daughter sorted out then I will have look at getting myself sorted.

it's great, but I think GPs will find ANY excuse to dismiss it and chuck it in bin! unless of course it's published by NICE (national institute of clinical excellence)

they seem to be deaf and blind to anything to everything else :(

Lets face it, they're often deaf and blind to the NICE guidelines as well! We can but try.

From stage 6, review: "Continue to treat appropriately and adequately other co-existing Auto-Immune conditions..."

Pity those whose medical professionals consider 'TSH within range' to be appropriate &/or adequate treatment :(

in reply to Clutter

Yes, I thought that too. Equally applies to doctors who think 3 monthly B12 injections are adequate treatment.

Also: "When patients present with mild to moderate symptoms of possible hypoadrenalism, the GP should order early morning cortisol levels (8am - 9am fasting cortisol) along with FBC, BI2, Folic Acid, Ferritin, TSH, T3, T4, Parathyroid hormone, Vitamin D, U&Es, Liver Function, blood glucose etc"

Hands up how many people got offered all those tests as part of their initial work-up? No, thought not.

Not what you're looking for?
