I visited Dr Skinner two weeks before he passed .I had to send my latest results to him please help .My T4=11.1 TSH =0.47
Dr Skinner will be missed by many and it was so sudden. It was shock to his family and patients. .
How are your feeling and what are the ranges as these will enable members to comment.
There has been something wrong with this site over the last few days. There have been no notifications so many may think that it is a quiet period. Maybe some are unaware there has been a reply to their query too.
Dr Skinner will be desperately missed my son and daughter are also patients of his .We are out on a limb now and don't know what will happen.i don't know what you mean by the ranges, but my son is much worse than my daughter and myself .Dr Skinner was very concerned about him, and just managed to change his medication before he died .What an amazing talented man. I wish we had found him years ago .He was so humble .
Thank you for your reply .i am new to this please be patient .I don't know what you mean by range .I only know that Dr Skinner said my son Daughter and myself had low readings. We are all on B12 injections also .My son had his medication changed just two weeks before Dr Skinner died , and I had to send him my result sadly he never got it in time . My T4 was 11-1 and my TSH was 0-47 . But my GP only prescribes if he gets a letter from Dr Skinner who has sadly passed.
Hi Burgess,
I knew nothing about the thyroid gland, blood tests, or anything else like most of us on this forum.
The ranges are the figures in brackets after the particular blood test. It would be easier if all the labs used the same ranges but they don't and they all vary.e.g. TSH = 0.90 mU/L (0.35- 4.94) Vitamin B12 287 ng/L (187.0 – 883.0)
louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org has a list of NHS Endos/private doctors if you wish..
Don't worry too much - which is easy to say but it does take time to slowly build up to a dose which makes you feel well.
This is an archived site (a brilliant man who died last year) and some links within may not work but there is lots of good, helpful, information on it. In he USA he was up against similar difficulties as Dr S.

Thank you so much for your reply .there will never be another Doctor Skinner . I only wish that I had met him sooner , then I may not be feeling so bad . At my age (70 ) I think I will just have to plod on .
Hi Burgess, no - don't just plod on. We can get well but sometimes we feel so unwell we don't have the stamina.
If you have had a recent blood test get a copy. If you haven't request a new one (a full Thyroid Functionn Test) T4, T3, Free T4 an Free T3 plus Vit B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. Get a copy with the ranges and post on a new question and you never know, there could be some good suggestions. The labs or GP may not do the TFT but do ask. Don't take your medication before the test and take your medication afterwards.
hi there burgess , there are a lot of people that have dr skinner to thank for their health ---- he has left a true legacy.....when people talk of ranges it refers to the ranges that the particular lab uses [ most appear to use different reference ranges to denote ' normal ' levels ] and this is very important information to be able to assess your results ........alan x
Have nothing to add about your treatment as I am still learning myself, but wanted to say how great a loss Dr Skinner was . I saw him the month before for the first time and he set me on the right path , like you I too wish I could have seen him again but it was not to be . It was so sad for his family and all his patients . He wrote on my notes that I did not look well but I think we should be able to sort this lady out. I am still now still trying to get sorted as he is no longer with us to help or advise , what a loss, and I feel sorry for your son and daughter Dr Skinner was one of a kind.
