I don`t like the sound of that. Have you any other symptoms?

Could you describe the pain and where it is a bit more, and if you have any more symptoms as JLD says

No just a feeling at the very top of my arm when i try to raise my arm it hurts like its badly bruised but its not

sounds a bit like the upper arm pain I had from my frozen shoulder (e.g. couldn't put a coat on without help) which can be related to Hyper. However best get it checked out for peace of mind J :D

test for frozen shoulder by tucking your arm against your body, bend your elbow 90 degree, and turn your arm so that it points to the side. That usually hurts in frozen shoulder. If it doesnt, lift your arm straight out and up as far as you can with your arm turned out as before. if it is rotator cuff problems the pain usually comes on at 90 degrees, if it is all painful it can be frozen shoulder. frozen shoulder taks about a year to resolve and there is not so much you can do about it. physio can help with some execises but the condition has to run its course. The good thing is that your shoulder usually go back to full movement afterwards. It can be very painful and you may need painkillers

My first one (left or right I can't remember!) took 18 months to clear - 2nd one disappeared after my PT op (I was getting various hyper symptoms from a dodgy nodule - I know now) just my experience. J x

Used to see people with frozen shoulder years and years ago and always said to them it will take a year when it often took longer. My frozen shoulder was injected with steroids twice and improved with this. Steroid injectione are not often used as they are not often effective, I was told. I was hypo at the time (but was told I was fine due to suppressed TSH)

First get a referral for an ECG to rule out cardiac problems. Having ruled out ECG, frozen shoulder etc. it could be fibro type symptoms. Mine were caused by levothyroxine. Unable to stretch out my arms or raise them above my head without extreme pain and feeling like the muscles were tearing. Fibro pinch points were extremely tender. Symptoms diminished when I stopped taking levo and completely disappeared 2 months later.

I started taking a different brand of levo yesterday morning. Already experiencing palpitations. Don't think I'll be taking it for long :(

This sounds very much like me. Have pain pretty bad in upper left arm for the last 2 years. Went off Levo but TSH gone up to 29 from 0.07 added cynomel worked up slowly and decreased levo then came off levo. Felt ok and pain diminished a lot. Hair better etc. Because of Doc put back on levo because of TSH and off cynomel (self treated), worked up from 50 to 75mcgs levo already arm pain back, hair not so good. So starting to reintroduce cynomel again. I think I need both, not listening to docs but myself. Some I think need both. I will let you know how I go, after 18 years of trying.

I will definitely be asking Endo in February to check out this reverse T3. Just getting a full thyroid check is so difficult.

Thank you for all your replies, it looks like it probably is frozen shoulder, is this caused by not enough levo, will it get better or will it spread to other areas?

If it is caused by Levo, any amount of Levo will exacerbate it. My Levo dosage was decreased in increments but the fibro symptoms increased until I stopped taking Levo. Fibromyalgia is a set of symptoms which can spread to legs and other areas. It didnt spread outside my arms.

There are other reasons for frozen shoulder e.g. trapped nerve, pulled muscle, cervical disc misalignment.

in reply to Clutter

agree trapped nerves etc. can cause arm pain/numbness however my second one resolved right after a PT op (dodgy nodule with hyper symptoms) and I could go bowling! they found the nodule after my extra neck ribs investigations (MRI) which had never troubled me for 49 years! well apart from having no pulse in arms at 45 degrees+ makes you drop things a bit. Also Vitamin D low, and life is so much better now without pain - now to sort those legs out! :D

*Luckily* I had stopped taking Levo 2 months before I tested for vitD which was <10. Fibro symptoms cleared before I knew I was deficient. So nice being able to comb my hair withut sticking my head between my knees :) Sheesh, I never made the connection to dropped and chipped crockery until I read your post. Can I sue the drug manufacturer?

Hi can anyone explain why levo could be the cause of my pain and is because i am under or over medicated

I just get a weakness in my left arm and vague pain in it,at times.I have connected it to my period(as its usually at that time of month)...maybe iron deficiency affecting my heart,i thought. Is bit worrying;i had ecg which was normal.I want better heart tests done but they wont.I have v long-term untreated hypo/hashis.
