Have you had your T4 reduced? People usually have their T4 reduced when they go onto T3 otherwise they start to feel very unwell with overactive symptoms. I've never mixed T4 and T3, I've just taken one or the other. But I'm sure others can tell you how much you should reduce your T4 by, to take account of the 20mcg of T3.

Good luck, and hope it (the T3) helps. :)

Have you had any of your vitamins checked - B12, VitD, iron, ferritin & folates - I ask because I went down the route you are taking and found out that it wasn't T3 I needed but my B12, VitD and, most importantly, iron levels sorted out.

If you have insufficient iron levels no amount of T4 or T3 will help your symptoms so its worth checking that all the above are at optimum levels.

Hi Moggie I just wondered if you could advise me with regard to your advise. I was taking Levothyroxine 100mcgs sometimes 125 or 150 for 18 years. Recently I trialed myself T3 Cynomel, and Tiromel, I have just found out that my TSH is 29 after reducing and finally stopping Levo. My results in May were as follows Serum free T4 17 pmol/L (9.00 - 24.00pmol/L0 TSH 0.07 mu/L (0.50 - 4.70mu/L) Free T3 5.3 pmol/L ( 2.50 - 5.30pmo/L) ferritin 99ug/L (15.00 - 300.00ug/L Vit B12 667 ng/L (180.00 - 1130.00ng/L). The T3 did the opposite for me, put on weight, depression etc and now have gone very hypo, I have never had a TSH of 29. Doctor has put me back on Levo from 50mcgs and working back upto 100mcgs I have stopped T3. I did it myself (doctors not versed enough), and endo hummed and arred that previous results were good so don't need T3 but would maybe trial me in February 2014 on next visit. Did it myself to find out. Very disappointed that this has happened and now back where I started. Or will be when built up Levo and lowered TSH. People say not to take TSH etc whilst on T3 but it was a rountine check the doc did as I was testing for Coelic gluten intolerance last week (which came back negative), as I have a very bloated abdomen etc. Any advise would be very helpful Moggie. Could the T3 you were taking be going straight into reverse T3 I wonder or could you have had a faulty batch of T3?

Ask another question on this subject and see what others come up with as your TSH didn't just increase a little bit it is a huge difference - as thought you where not taking the T3 at all and as you had stopped the T4 as well this could be why your TSH went up so dramatically.

Got the T3 from the Mexican webside batch number BM201320 feb 15 Tiromel from Turkey batch number 130001A November 2014. This reverse T3 business is tricky as endo does not test

Then maybe you will need to do a private test (if money allows).

Hi Sandy I took 4 doses a day, but still that happened. I will be building up Levo and then reintroducing once TSH back down. I have read that some of us need both T4 and T3 and judging by my previous results my T3 was already in the upper level.

A brief read of this makes me think it sounds like me other than the high TSH. I have been on T3 only for over a year and it has made me feel depressed ie as I wake in the morning, a feeling of sadness and no hope. Im ok once I get moving. I also still have some leg pain but not as much as on T4. I started to take T4 again but once again I got the symptoms I used to get with T4 ie pains in legs and other joints as well as swelling. Im now confused. My T4 reading is almost non existent which I believe is okay because of the T3 but not sure its good to have no back up. Will try a combination I think.

Yes I am finding it difficult also. My Endo has just upped my T4 to 75mcgs and lowered T3 from 30 to 20mcgs. I knew 50 was too low I have had this for long enough. My hair was falling out also, and my Ferritin is not high enough so he is prescribing Iron tablets. Hopefully this will help.
