Not my question, but I have just read a member's question on the Fibro Action site on Health Unlocked of which I am also a member of.
I still consider myself as a newbie on here (ThyroidUk) so need a second opinion please. Would it be correct to reply to the Fibro member telling them to get their Thyroid bloods checked ?
Several other Fibro members have replied saying similar - that it is all part of Fibromyalgia which you have to put up with. I'm no Doctor, but am a little alarmed by the question as an acquaintance of mine has recently also had a throat lump, now cancer. Advice please ???????????????

this sounds like a typical thyroid problem .....please advise them to get checked for thyroid problems [ not only the normal tsh test ---but also t3/t4 etc ] ....it could help and save a lot of time with a correct diagnosis .....alan
If someone is finding it hard to swallow that should be checked out properly - e.g. by touch, by ultrasound scan, and whatever else. Thyroid blood tests could only ever explain WHY it is happening - not WHAT is happening. So, although important to look at blood tests, the immediate issue is to see how bad it is and try to identify the actual cause of the swallowing difficulty itself.
If it is a goitre, suitable thyroid hormone replacement often helps to stop continued growth and, at best, can result in some shrinkage.

there's no harm in pointing others here - there's a knowledge base of 12000 or so folk to help after all, so worth a try (even a mere suggestion maybe?) we all have an urge to help, funny that! My take is if I help one person that's enough
I'm on a fb fibro site and know it's a bit tricky - they've been told it's just that and get on with it - however many also are affected by Thyroid problems and possible lumps should def. be tested.
AlsoThyroid problems can be started by other stuff (IMHO) like vitamin/mineral deficiencies - knowledge is power, any support may help. Go for it Coast walker, no harm done. J
If they follow you - Well done ! Whenever I read posts on the Fibro site I see only things like - that's how it is with FM - and so on. They do not want to budge. They often say they have had their thyroids checked - and when you ask them what the results were - you never hear from them again !! I read that post and wanted to say something - but I have put my head above the parapet several times on just the basics like VitD etc. You have done the right thing !
