I have several questions I want to ask my Endocrinologist and have left several messages with secretaries and nursing staff asking for him to call me back. He has not done so. Are my expectations too high in expecting a returned phone call?

ENDOCRINOLOGIST DOES NOT CALL ME BACK
Hello, I'm sure he is very busy, but this is your life you want to know about and I would expect any phone call to be returned irrespective of who I'm calling. It is his job after all. It is impolite at the very least to not do so. You shouldn't have to keep leaving messages, but I would suggest that you do just that, and also ask your GP to call him with your specific questions.
Are you sure your messages are being passed on? Ask the next person you speak to to confirm that this is happening. You don't want to wait for another 6 months or however long it may be before your next appointment before asking these questions. I think your request is perfectly reasonable.

I always write to my endo - have done this more than once - and he always writes back. Maybe try this route and see if you can get a response. A letter is harder to ignore than a phone message.

Thank you my thoughts exactly. My GP sympathises but says they are in the same boat as me. They don't return their calls either. I do believe there is a strong possibility that the messages are not getting through. The Endocrinologist is a Registrar and has the makings of being a fantatstic endocrinologist that is if they dont suck the life out of him first. He is kind, attentative and vey keen and is viewed as a numptie by the nursing and office staff. That's the impression I get from comments I have heard. It's a shame because they are our future consultants. I shall proceed leaving messages and bugging the life out of them!
I do love the word "Numpty", since moving to England I hear it so very seldom now, except in our house that is lol.
I'd go with writing a letter and mention your calls are never returned, write down your questions you want answered and say that either a letter or return call with the answers would be helpful. He may get a secretary to reply but at least you would get a reply. Mind you I cant even get a GP to reply to letters or return a call never mind a consultant!
Hi In my experience secs are not good with messages as not medical, so knowledge often is not there. I always e mail the secretary to pas the e mail on with a letter addressed to the consultant, by name.,
Then if no reply phone sec a week later or that day if urgent.and ask. Be sure to put your phone numbers on the e mail too. I have a NHS Cardio who is like this, when I need instant life or death answers
Best wishes,
Jackie
Don't call, email the secretary, find out his/her name and befriend them with a charming letter..... saying you know how busy the endo is but you are concerned and would really appreciate... etc... make sure you tick the email box that gives you a receipt. They are much more likely to get back to you - calls can be ignored and forgotten, polite emails are evidence if necessary.....
Do you not have to be a medical secretary to work with specialists?? I am surprised you called I just think nhs endo, he wouldnt be bothered therefore I dont bother !!
