If you were on Levo first, it would not be an issue. However, if you were on Warfarin and then were put on Levo, it would be advisable to monitor very carefully for a while. There is not any significant risk, simply that monitoring is recommended.

The reason for this is that under-treated hypothyroidism causes blood to become more 'sticky', and when treated, this can be greatly reduced. I was told by Dr BDP that once I am optimally treated, the Clopidogrel I am taking may well become unnecessary, since the cause of the problem was a huge reduction in my thyroxine.

I found this information which suggests that it does not usually pose any significant danger:

This information is pretty current, having been published in March of this year.

Hope this helps.

Hi there, presumably you go to clinic to test your INR for monitoring: This article gives a good article, and presumably they have told you which foods affect INR and also herbal supplements etc:

Hi Anything can effect Warfarin/INR., especially food and drink. However, under or over treated thyroid disease, much more of a problem to keep bloods stable. My consultant haemaologist, who I have seen for many years, always says with any drug, alteration of any sort, INR should be tested 1 weeks later. Antibiotics are far worse. I have to test my INR daily, so can see the changes often caused. When ever given any drug, remind them that you are on Warfarin, incidentally it takes the Warfarin 48 hours to really alter the INR. if dose altered etc. I have been on Warfarin & thyroid treatment, armour, now some years also T3 ,also for many years.

If on Beta Blockers, never take in the morning before a test, take afterwards as they do give a very false result.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi, Thank you very much for your reply which is very helpful. I did not know that Beta Blockers should not be taken before a test.

Best wishes,

Jean

Hi It lowers the results. I found out by accident , I have so many tests. Also after that I found a small study on the WEB done by Glasgow uni. It is not generally known as a bit obscure, but definitely does effect the results, not the treatment.

Best wishes,

Jackie
