Have you any other symptoms or is it just the anger - I ask because this can be a sign of being under medicated.

Like you I am on a very short fuse if I find myself low in thryoid hormone.

Hi Moggie

Thanks for your reply. I wondered if it was under medicated as I have joint pains, constipation, brain fog all the usual. However I am getting quite bad heart palpations which I thought is a symptom of over medication?

Heart palps can be a sign of under medication as well as over medication. Have you had all your vitamins checked, like Vitd, B12, iron, ferritin and folates as if thse are low (and I dont just mean low in range, I mean low for thyroid sufferers) then your body may be unable to use the levo properly.

Also, have you changed levo brands recently, as swapping and changing brands can also cause this - I have had to change brands due to Eltroxin being taken of the market and I too am suffering heart palps because of this.

I think putting you other symptoms in the mix would suggest that your levo is not being used properly and you need to find out why.

That's interesting about the heart palpitations as I'm getting these at the moment and hadn't thought it may be due to a different brand of levothyroxine. I was on Eltroxin but can't get it now. Do the palps settle down with time?

Snap and that now makes, at least, five of us on here with heart palps due to having to change from Eltroxin.

I've linked you in a few previous conversations to see what others are going through, including myself. I have found another month or so of Eltroxin and went back on them a week ago and, yes you've guessed it, the palps have stopped. Am writing to my endo this week for advise and am also trying to source a German made levo.

Thank you, Moggie. I wish I'd got some old Eltroxin to go back to. It's definitely not available in the UK anymore? I just hadn't realised and I've even taken myself off Amitriptyline (10mg) as I thought it was that causing the palpitations. Will have a look at the links you've given me. Thanks again.

Moggie, when you have some time, I would like to know what you think of this series. In fact he addresses anger in one of the videos. These are the Hidden Causes of Low Thyroid and it is really informative. youtube.com/watch?v=ZPryg5-...

Yes. Im extremely violent too. Its called Red rage or red mist rage. My daughter gets it too when shes had a dip in her thyroid levels. It is supposed to be an overactive issue, but my daughters GP said he found the underactives are reporting this too.

We're both underactives and I have Hashis too.

One thing he was noting was some were reacting to progesterone, or deprovera, and progesterone only birth controls. This was also finding women reporting these sudden overwhelming anger rages. He was looking into it to see if the dip in thyroid, caused the progestrone to rise so fueling the outbursts.

Both myself and my daghter get identical symptons. a feeling of being pulled backwards and the red mist descending and the anger surging through our bodies and unable to do anything to stop it. Once its gone we feel very gulity and upset by it. We both are frightened by the intesty of it.

I punched a brick wall repeatidly when i last got a red mist outburst. The trigger was I tripped over a stone and went balistic. Its always something so silly that normally would not even bother me, When the red mist is present it just takes over. I was so angry there was no reasoning with me. Scared my partner seeing me that angry and as he said I was shaking like a leaf and glassed over as though lights on nobody at home look in my eyes, and hes not easily scared. I do think having too much or too little causes something to surge. My hand hurt, luckily I hadnt broke any bones.

My daughter flipped out when her teabag burst. She had to replace all the cups and plates after flipping out and the cold caller got his ear well and truely abused. I've never seen a man look so pale as my daughter ranted at him. Thanfully she didnt hit him he called just after the intal rage was being burnt up by palte and cup lobbing.

I know I react when my progesterone has risen and also to deprovera which produces a monumental red rage. Its on both my daughters and I medical notes not to give us progesterone based medications due to uncontrollable anger outbursts..

Sometimes i can recognise its appearence is incoming which is great when dealing with cold callers or arrogant Drs. My partners calls it unleashing my inner bitch on the annoying.

I have Graves and had my thyroid removed but am disappointed to find I still have 'Graves rage'! Apart from being slightly over medicated on 100/125mcg I am low on zinc so have been doing a bit of reading. This might not be the reason but nonetheless interesting. Low zinc has been associated with hyper and hypo.

I was evil before being diagnosed.I had a whole personality change, very angry, confrontational and argumentative and would fly into a rage.I am finding as my bloods are checked and my Levo adjusted i am starting to mellow so yes i would say you are under medicated.

I feel your pain Dylansmum! I was always a good natured type of person but now am prone to black moods and flying off the handle at the least thing. It's horrible isn't it?

I do think that this is a symptom with Hypothyroidism, I know that it has affected me in this way, I have mellowed a bit with age, but can go off on one sometimes. The only way to describe this is that it is stronger than us, if that makes sense, almost as if it takes over us. Awful feeling and I really wish that it could change

I was always, shall we say, volatile. But since my thyroid problems became well bedded in have, indeed, become some kinda dragon. Mind you, it has stopped people taking advantage of me and generally pushing me around. But the explosions are, perhaps, the best way of dealing with that ... Woe betide cold callers. I spit their bones out into the garden ;O} It's so difficult to know what causes good and bad changes isn't it? I've recently retired from my final part-time job so am feeling quite mellow. But I'm also taking NDT, and sleeping better. So who's to say what's smoothing the dragon?

When i first became ill (in pregnancy, although i wasnt diagnosed till after) i had extreme mood swings and violent outbursts. My marriage was in a bad way. I couldnt understand it as ive never been a violent person. I went to the doctor and told her i thought i was going crazy!!

I find eating a mostly veg based diet (mostly on the Ayurveda body type diet) helps reduce the rage.
