Hi there, I have just downloaded My Fitness App to my phone and log everything that I eat on it. I am really doing it as a means of having a food diary but after only a couple of days I am really getting into it. It calculates calories and a basic nutrient breakdown. I'm not a huge fan of "calorie counting" but after a couple of days I see myself making conscious decisions about what I am going to snack on - ie I haven't yet indulged in my chocolatey passion. I'd recommend the app or something similar as keeping a food diary will really help.

You have to ensure that you are on the optimum medication for you - that is enough thyroid gland hormone to make you feel well with relief of symptoms.

i agree, i have tried that same app and its free :) and its amazing and scary how many calories you can have without realising it, u have to have some kind of calorie control to start off with before you can start changing what you eat, but as a fitness intructor i do kno that breakfast is crucial, cereal or eggs and toast and to get protein in most meals like chicken or fish :) slow and steady is the way, make a goal of one pound loss a week and try do some form of exercise, even walking! good luck :)

I'm really enjoying it! And I know that if I am still struggling to lose weight that I will have this print out I can take to the Doctor and show him what I am eating and doing and that he needs to run some more blood tests :-) Evidence evidence evidence! :-)

I have managed to loose 11lbs in almost a year, it's slow progress but it's happening! And half of that time I wasn't on levo because I didn't have a clue I was hypothyroid!!

My Fitness Pal is a brilliant website with a downloadable app. It gets you thinking about what you are actually eating. I haven't cut anything out but now I know if i want that chocolate bar, I have to cut something else out of another meal to balance it out.

I starting swimming last year, but got out of the habit, so I started doing a 3mile walk around where I live and that just keeps me active without going overboard.

I'm on fitness pal! Brilliant but time consuming- I'm on 1200 cal a day! Smaller portions for meal. Cut out alchohol and all sugar - you get enough in fruit and veg! Harsh but if the government were to ban anything it should be sugar! It also causes insulin and blood glucose issues and its empty calories! The odd teaspoon of honey! Vary your fruit and veg! Kiwi fruit are my favourite thing at the mo! V. High in vit C and low in calories- too many cause kidney stones! X

I've lost 38lbs in 17months with calorie counting and light exercise i try and eat low carb/low gi doesnt always work though i love bread. But patience and the right amount of meds is the key dont expect fast results and to make it manageable add a treat day have something you really love eating that you know you shouldnt such as one of my favorites a double chocolate muffin yum! And dont beat yourself up if you have a bad day. i did recently go on my fitness pal as instead of having to calculate it al myself it does it for you which saves quite some time

Hi I have been eating gluten free for about 4 months now and have lost about 2 stone. I was piling on weight despite hardly eating much for about 3 years before this. I am eating naturally gluten free stuff like meat & potatoes etc however I have not given up chocolate or crisps so I don't really know why this is working!

I've had a gluten intolerance test done [I think it's a new one] -and clear.

However, I still notice I feel much better on low gluten diet and it does help weight loss, possibly by reducing fluid retention [reducing hidden low level inflammation].

Yes I had the endoscopy done and although I was very swollen I had no villi damage and feel much better now I avoid gluten. My stomach shrank back to normal within a week of avoiding it and I can eat much more than before.
