after total thyroidectomy what is the usual dose of levo
Follow this link and download the spreadsheet:

This spreadsheet allows you to put in your height, weight, age, and read off the amount of levothyroxine that might be needed. Doctors use a variety of different calculations and this spreadsheet shows several.
Be aware, this is simply a starting point for making a "best guess" and the dose will very often need to be changed, sometimes very significantly. And some people may do better on other medicines than levothyroxine alone.
One someone starts taking their levothyroxine, the combination of symptoms and blood tests should be used and this spreadsheet should be forgotten.

I have tried to open the above Rod, but can't, does it come in any other format please?
What software are you trying to open it with?
That should work with Excel, OpenOffice and Libre (and maybe others).
If an older version of Excel, then you can download an update which would allow it to open the file.

Alternatively, tell me your height (in metres), weight (in kg) and age and I can put them in and save as a PDF and send it to you. Drop me a private message with those details and your email if you wish.

Hi Tatty
I had mine removed on 24/6 ( total ) I was given a packet of Levo 100micrograms one to be taken daily. I went to doctors yesterday and he said ' thats a bit low dozage usually for persons for total is 200 micrograms daily' I am none wiser and just have to wait for my 1st blood test which is 31st July and seeing the consultant on 7th august for the results. Going from there ...remember we are a blank canvas so to speak so anything is a bonus I guess. I also got my 1st prescription for free of charge ( very impressed lol ) .
Hi how do you feel having no thyroid, do you have any symptoms, how are you feeling taking the levo
I was reliefed it was gone. It was multinodular and pressing against my throat inwards. I wasn't in any medication beforehand either. I was very tired at work though. Another thing was that because it was pressing so much it made me snore like a pig really , I am having an investigation wether I have a sleep apnea shortly but looks like that problem has gone too ..husband says he can't hear a squek from me now. I feel fine taking the Levo as its absolutely necessary now ( only worry is if there was a 3rd world war and they stopped making thyroid medication I would be ..well dead lol JOKE ok ) The cut is not nice though I am on penicillin because I have a slight infection in the wound but thats healing ok now too . Can't wait getting back to normality and leading normal life. Got few weeks off work then my holiday starts and heading towards Mediterranean :o)
Hi thanks for the reply you sound really positve,i have a large multinodular goiter and awaiting a date for surgery, i also snore like a pig and keep waking up gasping for breath, just worried about the surgery and how i will be afterwards, i am glad its worked out well for you, and have a great holiday
Don't worry it is relatively easy operation and one nights stay in hospital , the snoring will go !
Hi. Hope you are feeling well. I was started on 100mcg then was increased to 125 6 weeks later which was too much. Now I'm on 112.5 and doing ok 4 months post op. I too had multinodular goitre. Good Luck
I had my TT in Jan this year - now on 112.5 also - it was higher but was reduced as they said it was too much also. It is strange how people have different doses, I know people taking twice as much as me but who also have a thyroid in place.
I am tall and seem to need less than much smaller people - all difficult to understand.
