I cannot wait for this test to be done so I can go back on my thyroid meds!!!

I am now at the end of my 4th week without any T4 or T3. As per last time I came off my meds(my own decision), the first two weeks weren't too bad. The first couple of days I had some aches returning and felt a bit more tired, then I actually felt pretty good until the end of the 2nd week.

I did try to fight it and carry on regardless but quite quickly my symptoms have been returning. The biggest of all symptoms is the extreme fatigue and pain all over my body. I have ended up going back to sleeping during the day and hardly leaving the house. Luckily I have gone back to trying to work for myself at home,(just starting a new business), so when I could stay awake managed to get some work done whilst laying on my sofa and using the laptop(although did nearly fall asleep and drop the laptop lol).

Other symptoms have also either returned or worsened such as headaches, night sweats, nightmares, moods, nausea, dizziness, weakness, shooting pains, stomach pain, eyes are more sore, hair is dryer and my palpitations have gone crazy!

I have decided to go only on to T3 when I go back to my meds as it seems the ideal opportunity to try it out now all Levo is out of my system. Whether or not my endo agrees to continue me on my thyroid meds, he will not agree to T3 only so I won't be telling him unless it really works.

I need to work out what would be the equivalent in T3 only to 50/75mcg of T4 with 20mcg of T3 but will just start on 20mcg of T3(split into 2 doses).

I really can't wait for Monday and will let you all know what the test is like and the outcome :)

It's interesting how quickly all your hypo symptoms have reappeared. What is a TRH test please? I have seen previously that the ratio of T3:T4 is either 1:4 or 1:5 depending on who you ask! So 20 T3 could be 80-100 T4. When I stopped the T4/T3 it took 8 weeks on T3 only before I felt better, in fact I was far worse at this time.

Good luck.

Hi MaryMary

Yes but I did expect it to happen pretty quickly.

This is a good link that Rod posted on my previous blog that tells you about the TRH test. I believe I'm having it because my TSH has never been high but my FT4 has been low. It's just to rule everything out really, well by the endo's standards anyway.

Thanks for the info and for the insight into how long it might take me to feel well if the T3 only works, appreciate that.

Thank you :)

Does the R4:R3 ratio apply to the 'free' reading also?

My ratio of FT4:FT3 is 3:1

TSH 4.84 [0.27 - 4.0] -so suspect UAT.

I'm thinking of getting a ReverseT3 done [sooner or later] depending in GP response to above-but it is quite pricey to do privately.

All the best tomorrow.

Am sure you will be letting us know how it goes. But don't feel you have to make superhuman efforts to do so - in your own good time.
