The rules and regulations regarding medical conditions are here:

gov.uk/browse/driving/disab...

I do not want to mis-inform you or give you bad advice so it is better to go to the actual source.

Some time ago I wrote a blog about this very issue:

When you posted that, Rod, I remember that 'hypothyroidism' was on the list, but when you clicked on it, it said it was not notifiable.

Now, I cannot even see it on the list.

I don't think it is there, and don't remember it being there! :-)

In general, if you are suffering from a disorder which is notifiable to the DVLA then the diagnosing doctor has a duty to advise you of the fact. See here:

Must be a false memory, worrying.

Well it looks to me that some jobsworth sitting in an office at the DVLA on a quiet day put a list together of as many conditions he can think of for each letter of the alphabet.Looking at that list they need to be informed of just about everything,i bet the person who put it together didnt inform DVLA of the bad wind they had! lol

I stopped driving because I didn't feel safe to do so, as it isn't notifiable, I have spent the last few years being lectured about it. I aren't always reliable as a pedestrian and the are concentration and memory lapses that could be lethal behind the wheel.

I know exactly what you mean Joboise. I recently had to renew my driving licence at age 70 and don't recall hypothyroidism as being a notifiable condition.

However, having said that for the first time ever I had to ask my husband to cancel a hospital appointment 20 miles away as I didn't feel I could concentrate safely for this long and I didn't want to kill the pair of us. My husband doesn't drive so was unable to take himself there. I am hoping the brain fog will improve when I am properly medicated, otherwise we are stuck.
