Hello mandys,
Is the rapid heartbeat all the time or does it suddenly happen and disappear just as fast? If it is a constant fast heartbeat, along with the clammy hands it could be a symptom of over treatment. (Looking at your previous blogs, that does sound most unlikely.)
You have obviously been having trouble with your T4 and if it is not doing the job, sudden rushes of fast heartbeat is a symptom of inadequate thyroid hormones, however the clammy hands are not, unless you are getting very anxious when it happens. As you suspect, it does seem the most likely reason, despite the clammy hands. Is your vitamin D level OK? As you know, It has to be optimal.
I have been having the sudden fast heartbeat throughout the day still, but as my thyroxine has been increased they are reducing.
There is the possibility that your hormone levels could be dropping anyway, this could be what they call the perimenopause, when you are still having your normal cycles but there are small changes beginning, one of them being a slight drop in hormone levels. Again, the clammy hands are not really typical, a hot flush usually leaves you clammy from head to foot! You could have a test to see how your hormone levels are, just to be sure. Thyroid deficiency can affect your female hormones too, irrespective of age.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

Thanks so much Marie, it only seems to be beating pounding when I finally sit down at night, like when I should be relaxing once kids in bed, I've noticed it the last couple of nights now. Sorry I didn't mean to say clammy, I meant really warm like hot hands, it's like a wave of heat through my body in a massive rush. I am going to annoy my dr very soon and ask for vit d test as not had that, many thanks for your advice xx
Hi I would think a good idea to have a new blood test, tSH, t4 and free T3,, also the reproductive hormones, as you know they start to decline and may be effecting this, also a Diabetes , B12+ Foliates tests if not had recently, both hormonal autoimmune, should be done at least annually anyway Also U`s and E`s ( kidney function)
In the slight event it may be the heart. An ECG would not show any thing as it is intermittent, to check for this, although with arrests, AF and VT`s ( in other words a wreck), I have never had this happen. Just to be sure for the next 2 weeks take your HR ( pulse), do not use the thumb, neck easier. Do this 3 times a day especially when "odd", chart, you are looking for uneven swings, at one time, does vary a bit during the day. Quite easy to spot AF ( Atrial Fibrillation). Then take to GP and ask for a 24 ( or better 7 day) home monitor, lit does non stop ECG`s,I honestly do not think it is this, any way usually not too serious., once identified. This is just to be sure. Also do your BP the same, straight arm on table, rest 10 mins, take it twice, no talking and must be a cuff monitor.
This is all a precaution, I think you will find it is probably thyroid. If taking T3, you have a high after 2-3 hours, why you split the dose.
Best wishes,
Jackie
Thank you yes I believe another trip to the drs coming on!
I have an older sister and she went through it early so is quite possible, thanks x
