Levothyroxin and strokes?

Hi

Would taking high levels of levithyroxin (high end of what a doctor calls normal) be any cause for a stroke. My local nurse has implied this. What are your comments.

Thank you

If you look at published information there are definite bad aspects (re stroke) about being either too high or too low!

I have prepared a summary of 20 abstracts. Have a look here:

More likely to have a stroke etc if you are underdosed rather than overdosed!! More scare tactics!!!

I agree...surely more likely to have high blood pressure and high cholesterol if under medicated.

Hi The FT3 is far more significant. However, often if T4 is high it is better to have a little less T4 and after a test, some T3 together. This helps symptoms and gives better control but you must have tests first and 6 weeks after the new treatment.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Of course everyone has their own blood results on which to base the t4 dose, but I wanted to interject that 150mcg is not - in and of itself - a high dose of t4. It is very average in the sense that a lot of people take it. (My endo said it was what he expected I would need to take to keep my tsh under 1.)
